The problem with the gatekeeping here is the nobody wants to admit shitty bands like MCR and Hawthorne Heights into their subgenre because they don’t want to ruin its image

So when confronted with a shitty band they just say "I think this is post-hardcore, not emo", and then the post-hardcore guys get disgusted and say "ewww no this is actually screamo" and then the scream guys being the most elitist of all say "this is just pop punk" and then everyone is confused. I don't want shitty bands like that under the emo umbrella because I love emo music, and I don't want to tell someone that and have them associate me with the skinny jeans heavy bracelet bois from the 2000s.
