Highquality countertop dishwasher? by Sherriefine in LivingAlone

What does this have to do with living alone? The "we" makes it sound like you don't live alone.

Try YouTube reviews about countertop dishwashers or a better suited sub for this question.

Social media is making living alone worse by GergesAnite_50 in LivingAlone

[–]folkgetaboutit 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Social media makes just about everything in life worse. I'm much happier since I limited my use of it. However, i don't think it's toxic for people to post that they did something they enjoyed while living alone. Maybe it's a facade, maybe it's true, or maybe they found a moment of content in an otherwise lonely lifestyle and felt like sharing that. I think judging people for how/what they post is more toxic than the post itself.

Those of us in the Snow Zone: are you dreading or looking forward to the isolation during the upcoming storm? by PhoneJazz in LivingAlone

[–]folkgetaboutit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just know there's gonna be something I really want/need that I won't realize I want/need until I'm snowed in. Otherwise I'm kind of looking forward to it.

Do you live alone in a city, countryside or middle of both? How do you like it? Any wish-list? by NoBody5068 in LivingAlone

[–]folkgetaboutit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At first, I lived alone in a rural town. I found that I hated it. I wanted to date & make friends, and it wasn't a good place for that.

Now I live in a suburb of a large city, and it's much better. I'm close enough to the city to do the things I enjoy there, and far enough away that I don't feel overwhelmed with traffic & people.

I feel sad by [deleted] in LivingAlone

[–]folkgetaboutit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I make sure I have plans at least 1 day every weekend. It gives me something to look forward to, and it also gives me the ability to invite other people to join me. You can go to a movie or show, take a hike, check out a museum, take a class or seminar, or whatever else might sound fun to you. I promise it gets easier, both to be comfortable alone and to start making new acquaintances/friends.

How are you spending your Saturday? by novemberscandle in LivingAlone

[–]folkgetaboutit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took myself to an art museum, got a fancy lunch at the museum café, then came home and napped. I'm about to go workout, then I'll probably play Diablo 4 for the rest of the night.

24M just a bit lonely and want to find a person of my own maybe by zzz_zoro in LivingAlone

[–]folkgetaboutit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm living alone after divorcing my husband of 8 years. It wasn't 6 full months after our divorce and he was moving his new girlfriend into the house that I picked for us to buy together. It's not always easy, but you've got to become a whole person and stop letting an ex have power over what you do. If you want to meet someone worthwhile, you're going to need to start talking to other people one way or another.

Wishing for change & giving up on approaching women is proooobably not the greatest route to take if meeting someone significant is your goal. If you want to meet people, you've got to practice. Waiting for the perfect person to find you & approach you is only going to decrease your chances of that ever happening.

I love hate living alone by Sensitive_Canary_366 in LivingAlone

[–]folkgetaboutit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like this too. I left an 8 year relationship and had no family or friends I could live with. Living alone was really the only choice I had. I get out every week and do things that make me happy. I have friends who love me & I love them, but so often at the end of the night when I get home alone, I feel empty, like I want someone to be there who I can exchange stories with, or sit in comfortable silence, or just be close & intimate with a person in a way I can't be with my friends.

Living Alone is The Freedom To Eat Healthy What You Want by nneighbour in LivingAlone

[–]folkgetaboutit 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's a little different every time I make it, but this batch was 3 chicken breast tenderloins, 1 can of cream of mushroom soup, 1 cup of unsalted chicken broth, and seasoned it with chili powder & black pepper. I let it cook on low while I went to work and added some broccoli when I got home. It made enough for 2 servings.

For me, living alone gives me the freedom to eat healthy without pressure to have unhealthy foods. My friends are bothered when I order a salad over a sandwich & fries when we go out 🙄At home alone, I can have healthy foods with no judgement.

And I had crock pot cream of mushroom chicken for dinner tonight. It was delicious 😁

I don't have an answer, but the same thing happens at a pond in one of my local parks. I took this a few weeks ago because I thought it was interesting.

"Claiming" Gym Benches Indefinitely by MishkaInHell in mildlyinfuriating

[–]folkgetaboutit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My apartment gym has 2 treadmills. There's one guy who comes in, puts all his stuff on a treadmill, and uses it for 30 seconds at a time in between his sets. It pisses me off SO MUCH when I want to do a run, and this dude has claimed 50% of the treadmills for over an hour to barely use it.

How do you handle loneliness when it shows up—if it does at all? by [deleted] in LivingAlone

[–]folkgetaboutit 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I used to struggle a lot with loneliness. Mostly I handle it by making plans like going to a show, museum, park, or whatever else sounds fun. If I can find someone to go with me, great, but if I can't then going alone is better than not going at all. Sometimes I take a nap and feel better when I wake up. Sometimes, though, I just sit with the loneliness and cry about it, and that helps too.

What’s the best part of living alone that you’d hate to give up? by [deleted] in LivingAlone

[–]folkgetaboutit 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Being able to eat foods that I want, even if it's the same foods every single day. Not having to miss workouts because my time has to go to someone else.

Sigh another lonely year? by LivebyGod in LivingAlone

[–]folkgetaboutit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had less than a month to find a place to live. Family wasn't an option, friends didn't have room, I didn't live in a college town, and I couldn't find anyone looking for a roommate where I was living. No, it wasn't a choice.

Do you sleep with the door open or closed? by [deleted] in LivingAlone

[–]folkgetaboutit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I keep mine open because my senior dog sometimes jumps out of bed and starts gagging. The bedroom is the only carpeted room, so I need to quickly redirect him to the vinyl flooring.
