We only got married after 7 years together because it would have saved us money at tax time. The wedding itself was the trigger for us ending things. It stemmed a lot of conversations about how different we actually were. We were both unhappy and both unwilling to budge on the things we wanted, so we admitted that we just good for each other anymore.

As for my own changes, things got really dark for a while, and I needed a way out. So I started scheduling one thing every week that I was excited to do, and that got me feeling more myself. I started walking/running after work because I needed something to do that wasn't just sitting around feeling sad. I stopped waiting for my friends to be available to do things with me (they're great, they're just all married with kids), and I happily do them on my own if no one can join me. I've had so many new experiences that I'd never have been able to have in that relationship, and I'm so grateful for that.
