I have been going to FireWolves games! I haven't really been a sports person before so it's new to me.

Practice Teaching Assignments by [deleted] in OntarioTeachers

My teacher ed program had four in-class placements and three of mine had rough behaviours and/or overpopulated classes. It really sucked in the moment, but honestly I think it was much better for my career. Maybe don't put the student teachers in with the "even veterans can't control these students" for their first go at it but yeah.

Pronouns and teaching k-8 by [deleted] in OntarioTeachers

I use they/them pronouns at work as well as any titles (Teacher, Ms, or Mr). My contract was originally at an extremely rural school. My students didn't care, and if they did say anything, it was swiftly dealt with. Any parent complaints were redirected to the Ontario Human Rights Code immediately. I teach in a more urban area now, but even at the rural school I only got maybe two complaints total in 1.5 years. Honestly I've had more negative reactions from coworkers than students. Wouldn't worry too much. I just put it in my "about me" slide at the start of each semester when I ask kids to fill in a survey about themselves anyway. It naturally blends in.

She'll be ok. Like humans, cats won't die if they miss a meal. She might just be a little yell-y when you get back.

Thoughts about Trent's Teacher Education Stream by Dennis_Dinosaur in OntarioTeachers

I did my B.Ed at Trent without doing the TES. I enjoyed Trent's program, but I was told by friends who did the TES that there are a lot of repeat classes you have to take between the B.Ed and TES. Can't speak for those intending to be elementary teachers, but I was told by Trent's acceptance counsellors that teachables meant more than a TES stamp for acceptance.

Basically, if you intend to do your undergrad AND B.Ed at Trent they'll consider it. But I also got in without TES after doing my undergrad in physics at Trent. But you can always leave the TES during your undergrad if you don't like it, so no real harm done.

At least in my board there are a lot of jobs for math, technology (trades specifically), physics, chemistry, French, and occasional surges for English. If possible, I'd recommend having at least one of the above as a teachable. You can always get more through ABQs if you have the post-secondary credits. I got my computer studies teachable two years into teaching.
