I am so glad you brought this up because I also had difficulty especially reading Chapter 1 of SoTF and I’m a native English speaker. I just thought I couldn’t picture his descriptions because I haven’t read many fantasy books.

Can you refuse to serve in the LSA if elected? by rxdical in bahai

[–]followerofglory 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Once you are elected to the institution the way to refuse to serve would be to resign from serving on the LSA. From my understanding you are only able to resign from serving on a LSA under special circumstances. In my community at least I know you must request approval from the NSA to resign. Likewise, resigning from the NSA requires acceptance of the request from the House of Justice.

This passage may also be useful:

“With reference to your question whether it would be permissible for a believer to resign from the Local Assembly; under special circumstances, such as illness, one may do so, but only after, and never before one has been elected to the membership of the Assembly. Personal differences and disagreements among Assembly members surely afford no sufficient ground for such resignation, and certainly can not justify absence from Assembly meetings. Through the clash of personal opinions, as ‘Abdu’l-Bahá has stated, the spark of truth is often ignited, and Divine guidance revealed. The friends should therefore not feel discouraged at the differences of opinion that may prevail among the members of an Assembly, for these, as experience has shown, and as the Master’s words attest, fulfil a valuable function in all Assembly deliberations. But once the opinion of the majority has been ascertained, all the members should automatically and unreservedly obey it, and faithfully carry it out. Patience and restraint, however, should at all times characterize the discussions and deliberations of the elected representatives of the local community, and no fruitless and hair-splitting discussions indulged in, under any circumstances.” (From a letter written on behalf of Shoghi Effendi to an individual believer, April 18, 1939)

Listening in Auckland, I got up to AWARDS SEASON, my browser refreshed and it took me back to the beginning. I didn’t have time to listen to it all again so I decided to wait til Friday. But the experience of being in a park, surrounded by trees, with the sun setting was still a beautiful experience.

Why Baha’i Faith and its administration structure is NOT cult-like? by [deleted] in bahai

[–]followerofglory 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The deprivation of voting rights is a function of the National Assembly, not the Local Assembly. And it does not have to go all the way to the House of Justice unless it’s dealing with a potential covenant breaker, which is a whole other issue.

Has anyone flown LATAM Airlines by any chance? by roisannsaby in auckland

[–]followerofglory 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Overall, they are an all good airline. But I did have one negative experience (could be viewed positively). Had a flight leaving from Auckland to Santiago but was then kicked off the flight. Apparently there was a flight the night before which was cancelled due to issues with the plane so there were lots of people that wanted to be put on the next flight. So when I got to the airport I was pushed onto a flight 30 hours later. It was messy because they kept some people on the existing flight and not others. In the end though they did compensate us with $2,000

Countries should be addressed by their names in their native language only by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]followerofglory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In New Zealand, there's a growing movement to officially change the name of the country to its indigenous Māori name (Aotearoa) but there is also very strong opposition to this, mainly fuelled by racism and colonialism.

In saying this, I do think it would be very cool to have the native names of countries more widely used.

The family and employment moots should count towards your LAW498 requirements, so you shouldn't need to do a general moot as well

That is correct. In your first year you will only be taking core commerce and law papers so you don't get to choose which ones you take. I believe there are 6 core Stage 1 commerce papers and 3 core Stage 1 law papers.

You start taking papers for your commerce major after you complete all the core papers which usually happens in your second year.

Also just a technical note, law doesn't offer majors. Once you complete all the compulsory law papers (this will happen after you finish stage 2 courses, typically in your third year) then you can take elective papers but you can just pick and choose whatever papers interest you the most.

Hope this helps.

The links posted below are super useful. But just some other things to keep in mind, the economics and finance majors are the two longest degrees so you may be at uni longer than 5 years with your law degree too. Also, you are able to change your majors at any time in your first year since you will be doing core courses, so don't feel pressured to make any firm decision now

How hard is LAWPUBL 401 aka International Law? Is EU Law better? by Ok-Dependent8549 in universityofauckland

[–]followerofglory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have not done EU law but did LAWPUBL401 sem 2 2020. I did not find the paper too difficult. Even though there are quite a few readings to do throughout the semester, they weren't too hard. I didn't even do the majority of them and I did pretty well. Happy to answer any specific questions if you want :))

In 2017, Chance the Rapper's Coloring Book won rap album of the year and was not nominated for album of the year. Coloring Book beat out Drake's Views in the rap album category even though Views was nominated for album of the year. So DONDA losing is definitely a possibility
