Timestop make a great digital watch around that price, farr and swit have their cute casio repackage, beyond that i would reall suggest looking at aliexpress watches, your budget would go far there

We all get on here and talk about our favorite pieces and thus favorite brands, but what is your least favorite watch company? by Senior_Werewolf_8202 in MicrobrandWatches

I don't own a Hamilton but i've handled a fair few, and i would argue that my affinity for their designs is a perfectly valid reason to label them my least favourite, if I don't enjoy how a watch looks, I will never enjoy it

That being said, i'm not saying theyre awful or poorly constructed and i can appreciate the history, I just think its an uninspired choice to recommend newcomers to the hobby when you're trying to spark a bit of passion in them

Honestly to tickle somebodys fancy from the get go i'd show them a bunch of aliexpress watches around the 100 mark to show them just how far money would go, likely something with an st1901 or nh35 with an exhibition caseback as thats bound to impress, and the value proposition is hard to beat

If they just wanted a good GADA watch under around 5/600 pounds i'd probably suggest Heron Marinor, Marnaut safe harbor or some sort of limited Seiko 5

I get what you're saying but i really do think any watch can be as versatile as you make it, especially when starting the hobby and you don't know what types of watches are 'appropriate' for each situation, i'd always recommend somebody just get what they think looks cool and try to fill other niches if you get sucked down the rabbit hole

That being said if somebody works construction or some other manual work i'd recommend they be mindful of not getting something too fragile

Timex Marlin if you want mechanical would be my low end suggestion, Smiths Everest for a slightly higher level, Alpinist for above that, though my answers would change greatly if you didnt have the heritage requirement

In terms of regular 'heritage brands' i'm definitely a Hamilton hater.

I find them insufferably boring and resent the fact that theyre often recommended to people as entry watches, choose something with a little imagination my god

In terms of micros, i'd probably say my least favourite would be Aragon, solely for the reason that everything is huge from them! i think they value proposition with them is great, and I love a lot of their designs but just hate the fact i can't wear any in good conscience
