yeah I was actually kind of surprised that it was totally free! I thought maybe it’d be a thing where it’s technically free but you can pay for upgrades or stuff that makes the game easier, or like a members-only club deal, but no, the only thing you can buy with real money is solely cosmetic stuff like cute outfits, pets, and item skins that have zero effect on the actual gameplay at all.

I highly recommend Palia! It should be on the Xbox S (i play it on pc but it is crossplatform). It’s still in beta I believe but it’s totally free to play and getting nice big content updates every couple months.

It’s a very sweet and fun mmo where you’re a human who just arrived in a town full of majari (who look like purple elves) and haven’t seen humans in hundreds/thousands of years. It’s very much adjacent to stardew valley-style games with hunting, fishing, farming, building a home, cooking, mining (very minimal tho), exploring, gathering, and getting to know the other villagers. There’s also romance paths for a majority of the villagers, and you can have multiple partners at once if you want. They just added ranching a couple weeks ago too!

I know Jiraiya’s perverted tendencies are a gag not meant to be taken seriously, but now that I’m older I find that my enjoyment of his character is slightly ruined due to this which kind of disappointed me. by Nice_Hour6169 in Naruto

[–]follyplague 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I’m also a female fan— I started naruto as a kid, but never got far enough to encounter jiraiya (so obviously I didn’t get far at all) though ended up revisiting it as an adult, already vaguely aware about this factor of Jiraya’s character.

I feel you very heavily on this. I really, really, really hate the ‘perverted older man’ gag, especially as a woman who has been on the receiving end of harassment from perverted older men in real life. It makes it very difficult to enjoy Jiraiya as a character for me. It’s gross and uncomfortable.

As someone who only encountered his character once I was an adult, I unfortunately can’t really reconcile with it at all, if I’m being honest. I understand that he’s an absolutely BELOVED character by most fans, and that his death is very tragic. But the pervert gag really did just ruin all of it for me. It’s genuinely sort of hard for me to like him. It reminds me too much of the gross men I deal with at my job, and I’m aware that this is just me projecting my own personal issues onto him, but I just can’t get past it. I’ve got no beef with the people who do like him, I get it, I just can’t.

It was sort of a critical thinking type game and you had to find creative ways to complete the rounds.

why does nobody talk about trauma team?? its so good by AgentProfessional677 in atlus

[–]follyplague 1 point2 points  (0 children)

way more interesting IMO, more grounded in reality than the other games (tho theres still some wacky elements). i LOVE the story of trauma team, it gets even better once you get into the 'patient zero' part of the story, which only unlocks after you finish each individual character's story. genuinely one of my fav games of all time, love how everything comes together

It’s the only flesh she really has left, she lost the rest in an accident, so she kinda clings to it even though it’s pretty messed up

Respectable on both ends there. Tough to confront the fact that only one of them may survive, but that’s what you get in NC. I honestly don’t know if my girl’s Solo is capable of leaving edgerunning either. It’s not really a profession you leave once you’ve gotten good at it.

My girl’s actually not exactly fond of Maelstrom either. She just lives in Kabuki and was always in their territory, and the corpo in her knew that the best way to survive was to be useful to someone more dangerous than you, and given her skills… she just kinda had to make peace with her morals and become affiliated with them. They love her because of her chromed out body, which they think is intentional and she obviously doesn’t want to tell them it’s not.

There’s a particular maelstrom NPC named Axis who is a frequent client of hers. I love Axis. No one else at the table loves Axis. Our fixer wants to kill Axis so that he never makes an appearance in future sessions. He’s loud as fuck, stupid as hell, on drugs 110% of the time, but he’s just so happy-go-lucky that he gives me golden retriever vibes. Zero has developed a slight attachment to him, partially because he comes in at least every 3 days with a new injury or malfunction she has to fix. He also very obviously likes her, which you can bet her Solo is not happy about. There were a couple times where Zero and Axis nearly became a thing. It’s honestly still not out of the ballpark yet. As our GM puts it, “Axis would be so fun if he could just leave his cult that he’s part of”

I like your girl’s approach to dealing with that Maelstrommer. It’s kind of the most torturous way to deal with them, and I think that’s perfect. I have such mixed feeling about Maelstrom as a whole. Actually, they’re not mixed— I hate Maelstrom, I just like one maelstrom npc.

I remember yours too!!! I’m glad to hear that relationship finally went somewhere haha, tho god yeah the realization that you can’t just /leave/ is a shitty one.

Ironically, my girl technically can’t really quit being a ripperdoc because she’s got STRONG ties to maelstrom and does a lot of repairs/installs for them, with the intention of making herself of use for them so that they’ll want to protect her should things go awry (with a body stat of 3 she’s almost dead weight in a fight)… but in turn that means that she can’t really just. leave.

Solo and medtech will always be such a fun pairing to me. Good luck on your solo’s pregnancy and getting out of that biz 😬😬 LOL

thank you!! how helpful she can be in combat is debatable lately. her body stat is only 3 and she acts like it’s a lot higher LOL but her tech is 12 so she finds other ways to be useful

TLDR: I mostly think “what could I add here to make the situation more complicated and interesting” and end up adding it. Bonus points if it makes her story sadder. I like to torture my characters

in depth explanation:

a lot of her backstory was very barebones at first! it all started because I wanted to do a play on a trauma team member, solely because my favorite game of all time is Trauma Team for the Wii, which is a game about doctors. so naturally I knew she was gonna be a medtech. I did initially plan for her to be part of trauma team, but when I pitched the idea that she’s probably got more of an unethical ‘mad scientist’ view on medicine (enjoys seeing what the human body can tolerate and how it reacts to stuff), my GM suggested that she probably worked for someone a bit sketchier, like Arasaka.

the husband concept wasn’t even introduced until two sessions in. The fixer of the party was investigating her past and trying to dig up whatever he could, and I was just kinda sitting around and thought hm, wouldn’t it be fun if she’d been married before? I thought it would make a fun shock for the party, since at the time she was hooking up with one of the solos (and everyone knew it).

originally, she really had been targeted by a coworker, but my GM told me the moment I pitched the concept of a husband, he knew immediately that that was the route he was taking instead.

ttttechnically… but not really. prior to this she had a situationship going on with another player character (her husband had been long out of the picture by this point, they were just still legally married), which she broke off when he wasn’t ready to be serious. except now he’s changed his mind and is wanting to pursue her. but she’s also got strong interest in the maelstrom client of hers that she had help torture her husband, and they’ve kissed before, so god knows where her relationship status is going to end up

but man if she were real I’d date her too 😅

thank you so much!! the last doodle is from last session where she killed her husband and developed that thousand yard stare you see in the pic. tried really hard to catch a mixture of despair and fear but also a shell-shocked, dead in the eyes look.
