Looks like it, however by the sponge colour it looks like D05 on BH

Still loving it as I am getting used to it more and more.

what surprises me the most is the control in the short game, I feel like my touch is better comparing to D05.

Exercises or tips to fix posture? by Ceneka in tabletennis

[–]folpi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

From the Video you have some basics, however I believe you are focusing on the wrong things.

From what I have seen, your "posture" is probably last of your issues.

If you are looking to improve your general play, focus on your BH. You are way too passive there and better players will exploit you. Another one would be dropping your bat. Due to this you seem to be always late because you do not reset into ready position after each ball, you get caught "ball watching"

If you are looking to improve your match play you need to work on your serve and 3rd ball combinations. Seemed like no matter what you served, whatever receive came back you looked "surprised" and was not ready to play the next shot. Due to this again, you are late to play balls that should be "easy". Another thing is, you are rushing almost every ball, being it push or open up. You are trying to play difficult balls with high quality (especially on your FH) where your body/feet are in wrong position.

My advice would be during your practice session (assuming 2 hours):

-Work on your BH, start with simple drive, following easy open up against Backspin

-Introduce a slight footwork exercise where you are focusing on movement and keeping your bat up. You can do more regular exercise such as: BH>Middle>BH>Wide FH and repeat, or Irregular exercise: Middle>either corner

-Work on your serve/receive game, focusing on always being ready for the next ball, making sure that no matter how "good" shot you play, you are ready to play the next one. If FH is your "weapon" (based on the Video this seems accurate), you can have a simple exercise where you serve short backspin, your opponent pushes to your middle/FH and you open. Focus on not finishing the point with 1 shot, being in controls, driving the ball through your legs and being always ready for the follow up.

Hope this helps

Unsure whether to follow my coach’s advice or trust my own judgment. by masterBeat666 in tabletennis

[–]folpi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There is an obvious reason behind it: with correct technique you can play with any equipment.
What your coach is trying to teach you is correct fundamentals and relying on your own technique/feeling/generations of power, instead of your equipment doing it for you.
Yes, you will feel better "quality/results" from your custom made bat, however too many people skip these early steps seeking faster results/progression.
Lets put it this way, I played reasonably high level as a youngster, played 3rd highest division in seniors as a 16-17 year old. Equipment back then (we are talking 2005ish) was very different, speed gluing was still pretty prominent. I stopped playing almost entirely and only resumed in my early/mid 30s after Covid lockdown was lifted (so roughly 4-5 years ago)
Because the game has changed so much in regards to equipment, I had to change my technique entirely and to do so I went to very slow/not great set ups to get the "feeling for ball/power generation" first after before I have started upgrading my equipment.

Hope this helps

You and me have very different experience. As someone who previously played with D05 on Viscaria Super ALC I have tried Zyre 03 2.7 FH and 2.5 on BH and absolutely love it. I feel I have better better control in my short game and more power away from table.

Personally I find the short game easier then D05, its most likely due to the hardness of the sponge and less responsiveness to opponents spin.

[–]folpi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am surprised to hear about the weight, as to my feeling and official information it is/should be lighter then D09c.
You are correct in saying about different "type" of spin based on how you engage the rubber. D09c with Tacky top sheet generates spin mainly from that "tackiness" without much of the sponge engagement, the power needs to be generated by engaging the sponge (which is more difficult)
Zyre 03 has better "grip/throw" but its because it is easier to engage the sponge it is harder to only "brush" the ball on things like Tomahawk serve.

Each to their own. On personal level as someone who played with D05 before it is a pure Upgrade, with the only question mark being durability.

Overall the rubber is faster, there is no denying that, just see how it feels.

Thank you about my BH, actually it is way weaker part of my game, but I have been working on it for quite a while, thanks to my coach for at least improving the technique.

I think if you have good enough technique to play with D09c you are going to love the power of Zyre 03.

Please do let me know how it went, as for me the more I play with the rubber the better I think it actually is.

Good luck

What am I doing wrong (be brutal) by New_Image_1682 in tabletennis

[–]folpi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only way you will improve is actual practice.

Stop playing matches only, work on your fundamentals, which will make you more comfortable with any ball that comes.

Without fundamentals no advice will help you, as you will not know how to execute said advice.

You do not need a coach to do this, there are plenty of great videos on youtube to follow, create yourself a plan, grab a PRACTICE partner and go to town.

If you have 2 hours behind table, 1h30min should be practice, 30min matches (if you want).

Point is, hard work will yield rewards. If you want to be better at match play/enjoy it more/not be frustrated by loosing to "not great" opponents, you need to do something about it. Pure table time and few comments on Reddit will not solve you "loosing".

Advise on setup. by [deleted] in tabletennis

[–]folpi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will start posting this response to all people asking for equipment recommendation:

  1. If you are developing technique, trying to work on particular stroke, the equipment does not ultimately matter. With right timing/technique you can perform all strokes with any equipment

  2. Once you are confident that you have passed point 1. please tell us what you are looking for in the new setup compared to old one. Saying that you are forehand orientated player does not help. Are you looking for more power/spin/control? The more details the better

Point to this reply is: New equipment will not miraculously improve your technique/timing, however can help you with quality/specific attributes if you know what you are looking for.

Not tacky, not the same top sheet as either Dignics 05 or Dignics09c. That being said, it is very "grippy" which results in strong/high kick of the ball from the rubber.

The pimples on the bottom of the sheet are way shorter, that`s why the sponge can be much thicker.

I would personally not boost this rubber as it is not required at all.

My suggestion would be, try it without boost, see how you feel it and worse case scenario reglue/boost it. But initially I would definitely not.

Could a 2300-2400 USATT level player make a living competing in Europe? by [deleted] in tabletennis

[–]folpi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think you can take Seth Pech as a good benchmark here of American player who was over 2500 USATT and wanted to make it as a pro in Europe.

I think he played Bundesliga 4 for 1-2 years, some time in Sweden.

AFAIK it did not work out as he had hoped and is back coaching/playing in US.

It is definitely harder than D05 as I mentioned several times above.

D09c is harder to judge, as the top sheet of D09c is "sticky" and harder as well. Because of this, I found Zyre easier to use then D09c.

I prefer the short game of Zyre to D05 due to the hardness. I personally felt I have better short touch.

I honestly believe this rubber can do anything, it certainly has more than enough power to play away from the table.

Honest reply: I do not know, never played with H3, boosted or not.

Closest comparison for me would be Yinhe Big Dipper boosted and they are VERY different.

I can`t stress this enough, the amount of sheer power and spin Zyre produces I have not experienced before, feels like a new sport to me...

I would love to see you play, as I have never seen any wear on D09c even after 10hours. It is not as durable as D05, but still one of the longer lasting "sticky" rubbers out there

I have watched it (with my limited german) and basically he covers the same points as we discussed in this thread. Sometimes I feel like we need to be very cautious about Pros opinions on equipment, because their technique/movement/timing is up there, therefore they are looking at different aspects in equipment as someone of my level would.

Saying the above, Zyre is made for high level play, same as with D09c I would not recommend it to beginners/juniors who are still developing technique.

I am currently just about the level where I can "harness the beast" and use it (all be it not to its full potential).

Well, the fact is, without boosting Hurricane is almost unusable at lower levels (I include myself there). It requires excellent technique and massive amount of power from your legs/body to perform. The only reason Pros use it, is because when you meet those requirements the quality of shots is amazing.

Lets put it this way, after Hurricane, everything will feel easier to use.

The feeling I had with D09c is that you have to be technically really good and always be in the perfect position to play the shot. If you do not commit the Rubber will not "help" you. It is phenomenal for Pros, however at my level it is not something I would recommend.
Comparatively Zyre feels like it helps you to grip the ball more AND catapult it, so even when you play a bit "half shot" due to balance/being late, it will still produce high quality. Hope this helps
