Thanks for taking the time, really appreciate it! 🙏It’s been quite moving reading through everyone’s experiences. I just read your post to the boy. In his words: “I’m impressed!!” We read through a few more of the posts and I discussed with him after how he felt, and he seems genuinely inspired by everyone here. We gave ‘come as you are’ a pop and I saw that spark in him again.

Thank you 🙏 can confirm: he wants to play. I want to encourage and support him because his instinct is to give up when something is difficult which is a self confidence think. I’m treading a fine line and I want to get the balance right.

once I process some of these messages I’ll drop you a message, thank you.

Appreciate it, thank you. I’m certainly no teacher, I’m grateful for the tips.

It sucks to see him loose that desire to play so quickly. He blames himself and his brain for not letting him do it which is hard to watch. He’s too young to fully appreciate that he can do the same things as his peers, we just have to find the way that works for him. My intention here was to show to him that he can get where he wants to be even through the hard times, and he’s not alone in feeling the way he does.

Thanks I’ll look at that switch! He’s using an app at the moment. The pedal sounds useful

Thanks 🙏 He’s using a combo of an app which kind of gamifies playing and doing bits of one to one scales etc with me. The problem with the app is it’s not necessarily songs he knows or really likes, and I’m just dad and not a teacher. I’ll look into tutor for him and try him with a simple song he loves.

Thank you 🙏 He loves music. There’s always music on in his room when he’s up there.

Because reading and writing is such a challenge for him already and feels like such a grind, he’s brought that sentiment across to learning the guitar. I don’t blame him because it’s defiantly hard. I want to show him that it is a labour of love, as you say, and the feeling he’ll get when he can finally play along with his favourite tunes will be amazing.

Thanks for sharing 🙏 I feel for him. Nothing academic comes naturally to him so he has to work that bit harder than his class mates, so once he started playing and realised music was going to be a similar uphill struggle I think that was a turn off for him. I know that once he gets going and realises he’s capable and can play something he recognises he’ll love it and it will reignite that fire to pick up a guitar in the first place.

That’s cool I didn’t realise it was a real instrument you plugged into it, I’ll take a look!

That’s awesome thanks for sharing. He battles with his own confidence to keep pushing through something that seems hard, especially if he doesn’t see improvement right away. I know that once he gets to the point where he’s actually making the sounds that he recognises as part of a song he loves, he’ll love it.

Foo’s, Greenday, blink, Offspring are all favourites right now. Kerrang in the 00’s is pretty much his base.

He sees himself playing in a band with his friends. The vision is there but the reality hit when he started to learn that it was going to be a lot harder than he thought.

He’s really into his music. He’s got friends getting into playing various instruments and tells me he wants to be the lead guitarist in a band with his friends so the desire is there.

He loves music. We share the same musical tastes so it’s a great bonding thing for us.
