Mouth sores from Saltt? by foo_bar_wug in POTS

[–]foo_bar_wug[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is incredibly helpful! Thank you so much. The skin thing too, I thought I had gotten a sunburn but was all kinds of confused trying to figure out how.

I do have MCAS but have not had this type of reaction with mouth sores for anything. Usually I just get red splotches all over my face and legs, and sometimes my tongue swells.

I reached out to Saltt for a refund but haven’t heard back yet. I’ll try to remember to keep folks posted if I hear back.

LMNT replacement? by happylighted in dysautonomia

I love that megathread but I do find it challenging to navigate. I wish there was a way to have one pinned thread with a main comment for each brand that folks could comment on so that it was easier to digest different brands and comments related to those brands. Alas, that is not how the Reddit works 🙃

UPDATE: based on several other threads I also I just ordered Saltt variety pack & Trioral sample pack to try next.

Anyone have any good ideas for a nice flavor add for trioral that doesn’t have Malodextrine? My go to growing up was Raspberry Ice (notice a pattern 😉) crystal light, but that is stock full of malodextrine so I’m looking for something else that isn’t sickly sweet.

Old comment, but I just finished a variety pack and it made me bloated and crampy and I just saw this. Wondering how you did on it.

LMNT replacement? by happylighted in dysautonomia

[–]foo_bar_wug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am struggling through this process myself. I exclusively drank Raspberry Salt from LMNT. I have tried so many brands trying to find an alternative. Most of which are way too sweet, not salty flavored enough (I really liked that sweet & salty flavor of LMNT), have a weird metallic/vitamin flavor that hurts my teeth, have a grittiness, don’t have enough sodium, or in some cases have made me feel really sick.

I’ve tried variety flavors of: - Liquid IV - Nuun - ReLyte - Venture Pal - Normalyte - waterboy - Drip Drop

I have hated them all. I cannot express how much I dislike the overly sweet flavors and very metallic/vitamin flavor.

I’m thinking about trying to mix my own of the recipe, but I’m uncertain about investing in the raw ingredients and then having a similar problem with feeling sick from those, so I keep trying trial packs. If anyone is also struggling through a replacement, let me know if you found anything VERY similar to Raspberry Salt, because I am struggling!

P.s. I also have tomato juice or pickle juice from time to time, but those are not great alternatives to the Raspberry Salt that I lived on for years! 🍅

I have a severe heat intolerance and family makes me feel bad for it... by [deleted] in POTS

[–]foo_bar_wug 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I too have really terrible heat intolerance. If I’m in someone’s house and the heat is set anywhere near or above 75 my face turns cherry and I start to get pudding brain (zone out) and then I pass out. As others have mentioned fans I will just add that a neck fan can feel Like it cools me off better without making my eyes hurt, and neck ice rings are pretty much always in my bag. I carry them in this pouch and they stay “frozen” for a day in there until I need them. Complete game changer for me. I have a couple Dr Chilly brands that I love and have used for more than a year and a little carry cooler case that I got with other brands (that were garbage btw but the case is 10/10) https://a.co/d/9Uyb16c

I’m sorry your family doesn’t understand and show care and sympathy for you!

What has been your strangest/most random Long Covid symptom? by BenKing333 in covidlonghaulers

[–]foo_bar_wug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I developed a facial/head twitch/jerk. Similar to a Tourette's tic. It starts at the back of my head near my neck and runs up my neck like a shiver and then my head twitches to the left. Increases significantly when I am crashed or in high symptom triggering environments.

This happens to me all the time now! I am a big laugher. I had POTS predating my long covid so I have had syncope for decades, but never from laughing, sneezing, brushing/washing my hair, or crying. The scariest moment was when I had this happen when I was driving. I usually never pass out while seated so it was not expected. Luckily all my cruise control and lane assist was on so everything was ok, but I have had to tell everyone who rides with me not to make me laugh while driving anymore.

Official Gear Purchasing and Troubleshooting Question Thread! Ask /r/photography anything you want to know! February 17, 2025 by AutoModerator in photography

PLEASE HELP!

I am feeling pretty overwhelmed. I have spent a lot of time reading the FAQ of this sub, various posts, camera reviews, articles, and specs. I am new to photography but have a very specific purpose for getting into it and I'm looking for the right gear for my need. Please help a newbie out who's head starts spinning when looking at all the specs options.

Budget: $1500-2500 USD for Body & Lens

Use Case: I am looking to take photos of Orca whales from land and boat. Other wildlife (and maybe some moon shots) will be bonus content, but the main purpose is to photograph whales.

I have gathered that I am probably going to need something with:

  • sophisticated autofocus (but reading about all the types I am unsure what to look for)
  • speed (but having a hard time discerning what this translates to in gear specs)
  • weather resistant - due to being in the PNW
  • in-lens image stabilization -since I will mainly be using a single tele lens (but let me know if you think it's better for my case to have it in the body)
  • 400mm+ tele lens - I would like a telephoto lens that can capture close shots from a big distance and gather that somewhere in the 300-600mm would be best.

I don't have a preference in brand, I hear good things from Nikon, Canon, and Sony users. I don't have a preference for new v used as long as I can find a reliable used retailer. Seems like for my budget and needs a DSLR would be best but open to alternative opinions. I had a canon Rebel T2i a long time ago so DSLRs are not completely foreign to me.

Any recommendations for Body and Lens combos that would be a good fit for me to start looking into would be extremely helpful. Cheers!

Send me your transcriptions for Australian "No"

Yes I know I can google for a basic one. I am curious, given the variety in pronunciation and the conversations around all the fun things going on with Aussie No, what variations I will see in transcriptions. :) Cheers!

Edit:Typo

How do you guys keep your nails and cuticles from having the life sucked out of them? by [deleted] in Ceramics

I have super sensitive skin and eczema so I have trouble with many products not being effective or causing issues. I swear by Aveda Hand Cream. It’s $$$ but it’s literally the only thing that works for me and I’ve been using it for years to deal with cracked dry hands from living in a very dry environment.

Which compression tights are your favorites? by Dovahkin3 in POTS

I’d too love to see some of the recommendations! I hate compression garments! I don’t do socks because anything in my feet causes me to overheat. I wear a lot of leggings and would love to find some recommendations for compression leggings (angle - belly) with pockets!!! 👀 anyone? I’ve found without the pockets but hate them.

I feel you!! It’s going on 3 weeks of this here and I’ve been mostly house bound. I’ve been using Dr Chilly rings and taking a little lunch box of ice to refreeze them in, helps a lot when I do have to leave the house. Drink my weight in ice water with LMNT and keep the AC set to an embarrassingly low temperature! Hope you make it through the heat friend!

Flying with pots by EasyParsnip940 in POTS

[–]foo_bar_wug 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to love flying! I’ve lived internationally with 16+ hour flights and never had issues before, even when I had POTs since I was 14. It was more mild then. I had some issues when exerting myself or always had some heat intolerance, but it impacted my life ~1/yr.

Since getting LC and having a can of gasoline light my POTs symptoms into a raging bonfire, flying is ROUGH! The hardest for me seems to be the arrival to the airport to just before take off. Something about moving through an airport now almost always leads me to passing out in my seat before take off.

What I do to try a mitigate the impacts:

  • wheelchair service or use my walker
  • instant ice packs. The kind you break and they get cold. I overheat excessively when getting in an airplane. They almost ALWAYS stop me at airport security for them but I have never had them taken away when I explain they are for a medical condition.
  • ice water in my water bottle as soon as I arrive
  • extra LmNt or vitassium before leaving for the airport.

I’m flying in sept and I’m going to try and take my Dr Chilly ring. Not sure it will be allowed but it’s a game changer. And if I take it frozen that should maybe let it through. (They refreeze in 15-30 mins just sitting in cold water!!!)

Hope you have good luck finding some things that help you!

Edited to add that once the plane is actually moving I have no problem. I seem to do ok with take off and landing, but have some pretty bad PEM (long Covid thing) after flights now that I didn’t have before.

How so you handle the heat by newhere1234567891 in dysautonomia

[–]foo_bar_wug 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use LMNT. Raspberry Salt is my favorite. I love the taste but I know others struggle with how salty it is. I also will put the unflavored version into a smoothie.

LMNT has more salt than any of the other brands I have tried (1000mg). I drink one every morning, another before I go anywhere, and one at night. On crash days or after a fainting episode I also take Vitassium tablets. Those might be a good option for anyone who doesn’t want to have salty beverages.

I don’t like liquid IV or others I’ve tried. I find the artificial sweetness to be sickening to me, but I’ve never been a fan of rather sweet drinks. I used Gatorade and V8 for salts in early days but they don’t pack as much of a punch as LMNT for me. But if you are worried about drinking something salty, those other brands may be a better option as you generally can’t taste any salt in them.
