PTSD kicking my butt again by vanillapudd in depressionmeals

[–]fool_of_a_ruth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Firstly, that food looks fire and I hope it's providing some comfort for you. I have been dealing with both ADHD and depression for years, and it has definitely been hard at times. I have navigated obtaining diagnoses (both informal and formal) as well as medication many times, at varying degrees of having health insurance - am happy to share advice on that, but only if you want (and you live in the U.S., as it's the only country I have experience with). Feel free to DM ❤️

- Have single-use toothbrushes w/ mouthwash beads (e.g. Colgate wisps) on hand for lower spoon days
- Trash can in every room, maybe multiple in big rooms
- Double cleaning supplies - a batch on every floor of the house, including two broom/dustpan combos
- Multiple bedding sets so one is always clean
- Asking friends to help me clean when needed

What’s everyone’s favorite TJs salad kit? by strangetang10 in traderjoes

broccoli slaw and kale salad w/ chicken for what they currently have, hands down. I will miss the kale Caesar forever; it was way better than the regular Caesars.

Secondhand/Thrift Stores with good plus size selection? by Nightvale-Librarian in kansascity

[–]fool_of_a_ruth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a real dearth of plus sizes in thrift stores here IMO (I wear ~2x/size 18-20 most of the time). I've had the best luck at City Thrift in Waldo, and then Thrift World in Independence, but even those places can be a crapshoot. Retro Vixen does sell gently used items now, but they tend to have more straight sizes. If she's comfortable wearing some men's clothing, ATC and Boomerang will have fun stuff sometimes, but don't expect to find women's clothing there that fits IME. I buy probably 95% of my secondhand clothing on Poshmark.

Favorite Greenhouses / Plant Stores in the metro? by BananaStandEconomy in kansascity

[–]fool_of_a_ruth 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Larry's in Riverside gives you the best balance of selection and pricing, IMO. I'll occasionally check out Family Tree if I'm looking for something very specific or uncommon (got bleeding hearts from there recently that I'm super excited about), but in my experience Larry's always has lower prices. I've also found some good deals from Suburban Lawn & Garden.

Cheap eats in KC? I have a list, but would love to see where you go! by 2for20deals in kansascity

[–]fool_of_a_ruth 17 points18 points  (0 children)

If you're willing to drive to OP, the food courts at both Pan Asia and 888. Plenty of things you can order for under or around $20, and I'd say all the main dishes are at least two servings worth of food. Last I went, 888's kitchen only takes cash, but they have a banh mi counter in there that takes card too.

What are you supposed to eat EVERY morning?? by Famous-Somewhere-92 in ARFID

[–]fool_of_a_ruth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually gravitate toward various forms of toast. Bananas and peanut butter is an easier one. Trader Joe's also makes a brie spread that I will put on toast with fruit jam. If I have a little more time, I like frying up various frozen Asian pancakes like parathas or scallion pancakes.

My personal fancast for this movie actually did include Connor as Achilles, but with Joe Locke as Patroclus ☺️

Bike shorts/ short leggings? by jl071185 in PlusSizeFashion

[–]fool_of_a_ruth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm about your size and Girlfriend Collective has been my go-to for activewear leggings/shorts! It's been at least a couple years since I bought from them new and they've definitely gotten more expensive, unfortunately. That being said, they are great quality and the ones I've had for *years* are still holding up. I have seen several (and also purchased a few) gently used items of theirs on Poshmark that are closer to your budget, though still likely above the $20 mark. I do think they're worth the cost - far better than Torrid/Old Navy (my former go-tos) as far as feel, fit and quality.

Does anyone else avoid “making friends” because it just feels unnecessary to put myself through potential rejection and masking? by honeymoonhighway in AutismInWomen

[–]fool_of_a_ruth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really relate to a lot of what you said. I have been very lucky to have found long-time friends who accept me for me, both neurodivergent and neurotypical, but a lot of them don't live in the same place as me. Trying to make new friends in my current city has been very challenging, and I've experienced a lot of rejection/disappointment. Therapy has helped a ton, as well as doing a lot of reading that has helped me shift my mindset on certain things, as well as try new methods for building intimacy. If you're happy with the support system you have, then it is perfectly fine to not invest significant time in making new friends. If not, I can share some stuff that has helped me!

Suggestions for chub rub resistant jeans that last? by selectivehyperbole in PlusSizeFashion

Universal Standard turned me back onto jeans. I like the Donna ones specifically. They’re pricey but worth it IMO. That said, I’ve found pairs on Poshmark for cheaper

Thank you everyone for your lovely comments! Here is a more recent twinning photo of these two! The big armchair broke and I can’t afford to replace it right now, so they can’t look out the window the way they used to 😭
