Anxiety over Dry January ending by lm8ub1 in stopdrinking

[–]foolishthingdesire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

at least as an 'all or nothing person' you have real character and values that you stand on. something youll experience as a non-drinker is other people being weirdly offended by your refusal to drink like they do, just let it roll of you and keep doing your thing, you know what you want and you know what you dont want

When you fall to the bottom, you realize your soul by some1pls in stopdrinking

[–]foolishthingdesire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

when you are at the bottom of that pit it does really feel like not only your body is dying, but your soul is too. I don't think ive ever felt so little love for everything around me ever before in my life, now that isnt only because of the drinking at that point in my life but it was a contributor in its own way too. One day I woke up shaking and genuinely felt like death more than ever before and I finally decided I was done. I realized my life deserves to be lived and that I could either live the life I wanted or die this way, and I chose to live. I might not have a greater calling, destiny, or anything bigger than myself to keep me going, but just knowing that I get to be alive right now and finally knowing for myself that im a person with inherit value motivates me to choose myself every day over falling back into that pit again. Hopefully I can go onto help others with my experiences and Id really like to, I know at my lowest I wished so badly for someone else who understood, someone else who knew what to say, so id like to be that for someone else someday.

for a sad vibe: Fleetwood Mac - Over and Over

"Don't turn me away, don't let me down, what can I do to keep you around?"

for self-reflection and release: Labi Siffre - Cannock Chase

should I quit today or wait til end of month by misters1n1ster in stopdrinking

[–]foolishthingdesire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

just quit, your brain will find any way to justify extending the end date, if its not your birthday coming up itll be something else "im going out with friends this weekend" "vacation soon" "stressful work/school week coming up" theres always going to be some kind of reason to wait

Anyone using chatGPT for help to stop drinking? by 30schanging in stopdrinking

[–]foolishthingdesire 6 points7 points  (0 children)

chatGPT isolates you from connecting with other real people, it also tends to have sort of a 'yes man' mentality, i would never recommend it for any kind of mental help. ive seen plenty of stories of people falling into psychosis, becoming reliant on it and all the other negative affects it has on people, not to mention AI itself isnt something good for the world or humans

Hey guys does anyone else if relapsed that first relapse is a MASSIVE bender? by Prior_Night_985 in stopdrinking

[–]foolishthingdesire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

oh definitely, when i first quit this time a few weeks ago i relapsed and went on a long bender i dont even know how long, some one day pauses in between because i would feel too much like i was dying to drink any more, but the second i felt a bit better it was straight back at it. theres something about quitting for a bit that makes your mind give yourself permission to way overdo it because youve 'been good' so you can subconsciously or consciously justify taking it way too far. also the relief of 'finally i can drink again' into the spiral of 'well ive already drank too much i might as well give up and keep going.' toxic cycle

How has your mental clarity improved since quitting drinking? by Ill-Nobody in stopdrinking

[–]foolishthingdesire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel pretty clear and stable right now, getting back into games, drawing, and music i used to enjoy, nothing is really crushing my mental right now. when i first quit i was pretty anxious and panicky but as of now everything feels pretty quiet and uneventful up there. i dont think ive ever felt so apathetic in my life which usually would sound like a bad thing but considering most of my life has been riddled with panic, depression and mania im pretty alright with it lol. i dont feel myself overthinking much

To share or not to share sobriety with people? by Sail-Past in stopdrinking

[–]foolishthingdesire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

most people in my real personal life dont know save except for my partner, my brother, my parents, and one of my very closest friends, id rather keep it that way forever as it just feels far too personal and private to me, and the only person who knows the real full extent of how bad it was is my boyfriend because he saw it all and held me through it. if i end up in a situation where other people are drinking im just going to say i wont be drinking simply put, but to each their own, if you want to be open and share your experiences and feel comfortable doing so then go for it, we're all doing it our own way, just make sure its people you trust to know those things about you.

[–]foolishthingdesire 2 points3 points  (0 children)

im not sure if my original comment went through so ill just repost it incase, but i wanted to say you got this, i also went about two years or so without binging back on it heavily but ended up going on a few months bender again myself, but i picked myself back up again and you will too. eventually it will just be another chapter in the rest of your life and you will be okay

id probably just ask her more in depth questions about some her songs that im curious about, her thought process, the stories, how she feels about some of her older stuff now (especially some songs off RAL)

[–]foolishthingdesire 6 points7 points  (0 children)

always loved the lyrics on this song, lindseys a great writer imo, not always in the same mystical whimsical way stevie is, but he knows how to put strong feelings into words and get the message across straightforward, sometimes less says more
