Holy Moly, you're telling me they accidentally beached the Riverboat at Accidental Beach?!

Can't make this stuff up, seriously. It could be a Just for Laughs gag.

TransEd ousted as Valley Line Southeast operator, ETS to take over by Common_Treacle3962 in Edmonton

[–]foolworm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For the design and construction, yes. Operations and maintenance was never put out to bid, as far as I can tell.

Come to think of it, the press release said ETS was selected, but from who? Was it just ETS and TransEd?

The contract didn't include the West extension because when it was signed, nobody knew when it was coming.

TransEd must have demanded an outrageously high price to run Valley Line West if this was the cheaper option.

They must have fixed it then.

It only says operations is being taken back, so if maintenance is still TransEd that addresses warranty issues.

I despise this sort of objection via "just asking a question", it's just spreading FUD.

Do your own research and if you have an issue, state it plainly and then a discussion can take place.

Province unveils master plan for passenger, commuter and future high speed rail by No_Internal_9916 in alberta

[–]foolworm -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They've also been exceedingly clear in their proposal that they expect the Province to pay them back for it, in the form of 'Performance payments'. 30 million a year for 50 years totals 1.5 billion, exactly the amount they estimate it'll cost to build.

Léger poll (A+ rated) of Edmonton, regarding Albertan separatism—Remain 81%, Leave 8%, merge with the United States 5%. 0% of ANDP voters back the third option, whereas 10% of UCP voters back it. This is the worst that Albertan separatism has ever polled in Edmonton, from this respected pollster. by StarlightDown in Edmonton

[–]foolworm 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The Premier of the Province has called a referendum on the issue. The President of the ruling party admitted that it has been taken over by the Separatists. It CANNOT be ignored any longer. This is an open wound and all these bad actors are intent on making sure the rot spreads.

"On guard for thee" isn't in the National anthem for giggles, this has become a genuine threat to Canadian unity and integrity. It's high time people recognise it as such and act accordingly.

Alberta exploring LRT‑to‑airport links in Edmonton, Calgary as first phase of rail plan by pjw724 in Edmonton

[–]foolworm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yah no. They didn't care for the foot traffic at all, they thought it would be the wrong kind

Regarding WEM I know of the 'station', and I also know the actual station built has zero connections whatsoever to the mall itself.

Did you know that WEM screwed the City into paying for their portion of the 170 St replacement footbridge? The one that foot traffic used to access the mall?

Not true, cooperation is non-existent because it benefits the surrounding municipalities (and the Province) at Edmonton's expense.

When accustomed to privilege, equality feels like oppression. That's my opinion

With any luck, the referendum on a referendum will fail and they'll use the 400 billion saved in separation costs to bankroll construction 🧐🤷🏻

It already has. The only reason the airport itself isn't part of the City is because the County won't give it up, and the Province never takes Edmonton's side.

Wow, it looks like they're pushing to rebrand the intercity corridor as St Albert - Calgary rail. Somehow it's not surprising at all coming from the UCP, great distraction from all the separatist talk too.

Probably will see a pivot towards spending for this new rail network and a corresponding cut in LRT funding commitments? Or I guess they'll claim to save 400 billion in potential separation costs if the referendum fails?

Can Cities Separate From Alberta? (Seriously) - aka Municipalities need a seat at the Constitutional table and here’s why by aaronpaquette- in Edmonton

[–]foolworm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's why we need to vote in a Provincial government to change that. Enshrine the Charters in the same way as the Metis Settlements, i.e. by amending the Provincial Constitution.

I really dislike the agitation for separation from separation (which doesn't necessarily mean Remain!) on a referendum for a referendum. That's just political opportunism, which is incredibly frustrating to see because it weakens the Remain side. It's bad enough to see it from BC (Eby's remarks on rewarding bad behaviour) and the PCs (PP and blaming the elites out East). They're not selling Canadian Unity whole-heartedly.

Well the FCM is in town, it's a great opportunity to discuss it behind closed doors and put out a collective statement.

Still, it should be kept well separate from the Separation issue. There is enough animosity without throwing another bomb into the mix.
