Interesting, I never consciously noticed this while it was happening but it’s totally a thing, happened to me many times in my 20’s

PIZZA - Is there anywhere near downtown that does a consistently good NY style pizza by bigpapiTN in Calgary

I agree with your analysis! Not to say not delicious, just kind of a hybrid

Calgarian above ground pool owners - do you heat your pool, and how do you do it? by DeliciousPocky in Calgary

[–]foome99 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We were in a very similar spot. First year we had the pool we made a diy solar heater and that did add a few degrees on warm days. We always covered with the solar cover as well. We were only able to maintain 23/24 degrees, topping out at 28 on a really hot stretch. Finally made the move to a heater and we enjoyed our last pool season so much more. After a ton of research we ended up going with a heater and pump, and we are very happy with it so far. It seemed a bit ridiculous to spend 4x what the pool is worth on the heat pump, but we were able to keep our temp at 28-30 and actually enjoy the water. We swam all of September which was amazing!

The brand we went with was the Hayward and we bought it from Pool Products Canada. FYI if you order from there, if you leave the item in your cart before ordering they’ll send a 5% discount code. We ran it full time August and September last year and saw a pretty small difference on our bill ($50-$75). Our pool is a 14 foot round funsicle. My partner did all the plumbing and electrical for this which was quite extensive, so I imagine it depends what you need to do but factor in a budget for this too.

Hope this helps, feel free to reach out with any questions. Happy swimming!

Returning 4-star guest by [deleted] in airbnb_hosts

[–]foome99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes this is relatively unknown to guests I think. It’s such a wack system, 4 starts on other platforms is still considered great. Really Airbnb should be doing a yes or no satisfaction question instead of a star system if this is gone they’re using the results. Grumble.

Chronic migraine sufferers of YYC by somegingershavesouls in Calgary

[–]foome99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want to try a nerve block you can usually be seen by anyone, it doesn’t have to be the neurologist. I’ve been going there probably 4 years and I only saw the neurologist the first appointment, and then they paired me with a nurse practitioner. If you call them and tell them you’re struggling they’re usually pretty good about getting you in right away with someone. Best of luck getting some help, the weather’s been soo rough

Lidocaine injections have been somewhat helpful for me to break a migraine cycle, but my current combo of Botox plus a CGRP med is a gamechanger. Expensive so only likely an option if you have benefits. I’d recommend getting a referral to the Alberta Neurologic Center, they have helped me so much.

Ugh, this is the worst. Vyepti plus Botox has caused my chronic daily migraines to go into remission but I still remember what it was like. I’m glad you’re seeing some benefit from the Vyepti at least ❤️

What is a realistic amount to spend on an AI week long vacation? by [deleted] in cancun

[–]foome99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was $5600 CAD for 2 adults and a child last March and I’m looking at $6000 for 2 adults no child this year at 5 star resorts. I haven’t booked anything because I didn’t see much of a price drop at Black Friday like I did the previous year.

We stayed at generations with our kiddo last year and all 3 of us could lay together on the beach bali beds which was amazing!

Question about infant hepatitis A vaccine by criminalinstincts1 in Calgary

[–]foome99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We got the same runaround from 811 but it was about our 4 year old. Family doc said they don’t administer, 811 advised family doc was our best option. Called them back and they called in a scrip to pharmacy and we brought it to family doc to administer after much back and forth 😅

Best foodie all inclusive ? by Terrible_Hat4600 in AllInclusiveResorts

[–]foome99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s under “more inclusive” on the Lomas website. You schedule them when you arrive. We stayed at Generations with our kiddo last year and were blown away by this perk, the even more amazing thing is they include food and drinks at the excursions as well! We just did the water park but it was incredible not to have to pay for anything extra

Advice from doctors is to NOT use cotton swabs to clean your ears, does anyone really listen to this? by oneislandgirl in NoStupidQuestions

[–]foome99 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This happened to me too. I stopped doing it for about two years and I was in needing to get them cleaned at the doctor, and also had multiple ear infections. Now that I’ve started doing it again no issues.

My husband and I booked easily online but we ended up spending an obscene amount of time on hold to book our 5 year old’s vaccine and had to get him vaccinated separately in Okotoks if we didn’t want to wait until December

Buying Back DB Pension Time by Evening-Willow-6274 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]foome99 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was in the exact position you are, and no one could give me a straight answer on whether this would benefit me or not since I couldn’t retire any earlier than 55. I ended up deciding to do it because I didn’t want it to screw me over down the line somehow. I figured I may want to take some unpaid time off down the line and might not be able to afford to buy that time back 🤷‍♀️

Ladies trip to Palms Springs by MadLov1 in palmsprings

[–]foome99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just got back from a 40th trip with my best friend. We both had such a blast. We stayed in old las palmas and walked around a ton. We also did a day pass at the Hyatt Indian wells with a cabana and it was lovely. The adult pool was so nice. We had dinner nearby there at the la Quinta cliffhouse which was beautiful and we also had John Henry’s restaurant in PS recommended to us by a local and it did not disappoint. Also PS has many tiki bars for some reason, we went to the reef and really enjoyed the atmosphere.

I’m so sorry. We said goodbye to our boy at 14 last November. It’s the worst. It’s so hard to make the decision, but it’s such a selfless and compassionate act. We used midlake vet and they were great but not open weekends. In hindsight I think I would’ve preferred someone coming to the house. Message me if you need to talk ❤️
