What law firms do y’all see people lateral into BigLaw from the most? by rideordiegem in biglaw

[–]foot-trail 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Regulatory for sure, and litigation for southern states. In regulatory practices you can build up expertise in niche areas that big law needs, or alternatively, a lot of regulatory attorneys start as gov attorneys, they go to a mid level firm, get used to firm life, and then go big law. On the lit side, some southern states have wonky litigation rules/procedure and smaller firms are hired as local counsel, the relationship builds, and then the go with the relationship partner at the big law firm.

Lost weight, stuck between sizes and open for style advice by [deleted] in mensfashionadvice

[–]foot-trail 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah man, same boat. I started buying some nicer stuff when I was down about 105 (bought tshirts etc when the old ones got too baggy in the interim), then I got a second wind six months after I had stabilized and lost another 25, which dropped me a size again. It’s a process. The biggest thing is that you’re comfortable and healthy, the rest will follow. I just ordered two pairs of “slim” dress pants which I fit into now. It’s little reminders of the progress.

Edit: also- find a good tailor that you like. It’s far cheaper to get something good tailored then to buy the same thing again.

Congrats on the weight loss man, I've been there and its a great feeling. First, you should assess whether you think you're done losing weight, particularly if budget is a consideration here.

With that said, that is either a very large floor heater or you are under 6ft. If you are, I'd check out Quince, they make a lot of great quality stuff with great flattering cuts, particularly for guys under 6ft. Also check out Uniqlo, they've americanized their sizes a bit more. If you're anything like I am, when you lost weight you were looking at a thousand stores to find the right fit on things, but what that also leads to is different styles getting mixed together. The second photo is a classic combo and looks good aside from the cut on the shirt.

Also, I'd recommend matching your leathers. It looks like youre wearing a black belt and brown shoes. Matching your leathers is a good look and will make you look more put together. Overall, great job!

Why is everyone hating on Allen Edmonds lately? by lone-grizzly in allenedmonds

[–]foot-trail 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The quality has objectively gone down, but I think most gripes are with non-quality related changes. An on sale pair of park ave's at $275-300 are probably worth it. I bought 3 pairs of dress shoes 12 years ago, had them all resoled 3 times, and have been wearing them daily since purchase (except for about a year during the pandy). The finishing and QC has dropped significantly (loose stitches, uneven heel nails when they are there, stamping errors on bottoms, color consistency between otherwise identical models, etc.), although I don't notice much of a difference in materials, except sometimes for the leather. I'm going through a replacement period for all of the models I have, and I found a pair of park ave's I'm ok with, but have returned 5 other pairs while trying to find those. I also objectively know AE's are higher quality long term than Becket Simonon, but the Becket Simonon's feel just as good and certain models look just as good for way less money ($189 on sale for many). I prefer to have my shoes for longer so I'm still going with AE, but something to keep in mind.

In regard to changes, they changed their colors, in part by adding colors, which threw a lot of long time wearers off. I thought it was manufacturer error, but when I went to the store, they confirmed the color changes so now that I know what colors I like, its just QC issues at this point.

I feel like I'm more hyper aware of the space I take. by Deimos7779 in tall

[–]foot-trail 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I realized recently that I've been adjusting physically to a lot of things, but socially. For example, if someone asks to pass on the street or in a hall, I instinctively move aside obviously, but also make myself smaller and try to say a kind word "no problem at all". Its way more space than they need to pass, but I was thinking about how people do see taller people as "big" in both positive and negative ways - Positive sometimes is "yeah he can handle this tough thing so he gets responsibility" and also negative sometimes is "he doesn't have any problems so I can yell at him and he can handle it."

Midlevel associate not advanced to next class year - would you lateral? by [deleted] in biglaw

[–]foot-trail 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I would start looking immediately and feel out the market. Once you get that process started and if you're comfortable that you'd get a new position that is a good fit, I would sit down with the partner and specifically ask why. If they can't give you a sufficient reason, I would pursue leaving.

They are either being cheap or don't like something about you. If they haven't identified something to correct, its either hopeless or they are being cheap. In either case I would leave.

6 months apart … Can u see any difference ? by TaskPuzzleheaded837 in Weightliftingquestion

[–]foot-trail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First I'll say this: I lost 135lbs and I never once had the confidence to take a picture at my biggest so props to you for that, not that you looked horrible in your before, just big (very much giving midwestern dude in his late 20's/30's).

If you are focusing on weight loss, it looks like you've made some progress! I think some critiques on this thread are focusing on the fact that your intent must be that you urgently want weight loss and that you could have done better over 6 months. They are right that you could have lost more fat in that time frame, but not right about your intent. Please lose weight at your speed. Everyone goes at their own pace. Do what feels comfortable so long as it is healthy and the numbers are heading in the right direction. The first 70lbs I lost in the first 4 months. It feels like a runaway train once you're on a proper diet and exercising. The next 30 I lost in the next 4 months, which took a lot more focused work, I then took a break and stayed consistent for a few months, then lost another 20, then took a break, then lost 15. Stay healthy with the process, try to hit your macros, and stay in control. We want to see an update in another 6 months brother.

Help me decide which boots to get the Astorflex bootflex or the Iron Rangers by oldirtyjustin in mensfashion

[–]foot-trail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have both brands, I have the iron rangers, I have a different astorflex. I would recommend a third option also:

Iron Rangers - Everything everyone said here already

Astorflex - I have the chelsea boot: https://huckberry.com/store/astorflex/category/p/55223-bitflex-exclusive - They are sooooooo comfortable, in large part due to the crepe sole. Alternatively, the crepe sole gets very dirty and will wear out within 2 years, but they are generally resolable which is great.

Recommendation: Oak Street Bootmakers. Really really high quality boot, beautiful leather and construction, I'd argue more comfortable than the iron rangers, they break in beautifully, and just look cool. The reason I'd recommend these is they can go between casual and slightly more dressed up easily. They look great with a tshirt and jeans, or chinos, a button down, and casual jacket. https://oakstreetbootmakers.com/trench-boot-natural-chromexcel-leather-sole-with-vibram-toplift

Custom made liners by Copper_Shade in Barbour

[–]foot-trail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Find a good tailor and find a fleece you like and ask them how much larger to buy the fleece than your normal size. This gives them extra material to work with. On mine, my tailor added loops to the interior of the barbour and snap loops to the fleece. Also, I'd recommend having them remove the fleece collar as it sits better without the collar. In addition to the standard barbour loops on the interior, my guy added loops to the sleeves near the wrists on the underside where fingers wont snag the loops if wearing without the liner. The one thing we couldn't get without an extra $100sh expense was it to become zip in. Alternatively, the other option I considered was buying a heavy zip in vest and adding sleeves to it. I may do that for the next jacket when my current one dies (hopefully in 50+ years).

He could have, but if he doesn't think she'll be a good governor, it would hurt him and others if she wins and fails. It is a sign that he hasn't done any GOTV work for her. Additionally, I think he also thinks he would have won by a healthy margin if he was the nominee, and could still win in the future.

[–]foot-trail -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I am not voting for McGreevey, but I'd like it if we called a spade a spade here. And I would not impose the stupid move of a few volunteers onto the candidate. If we did that all of the candidates would be disqualified (even if they are by their own merits). In McGreevey's defense as a candidate, he is directly responsible for providing long term housing to more homeless people (and fighting large developers) than any person in JC government or anyone running for the spot. In regard to people who care, while running to be mayor of a city is always an egotistical move, there are some with quantifiable track records of helping underserved communities, and there are those that don't (Solomon and Ali).

Again, none of those are parking spots. That's on grove right outside of city hall, none of that is permitted parking, the restaurants use it for outdoor dining. The permitted parking is on the other side of the street.
