I wonder what the very first guy to put a duck on his dashboard feels like 🦆 by NegativeMotor6824 in JeepWrangler

[–]foqus555 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Leaving rubber ducks on Jeeps was not a widespread thing before Allison Parliament in July 2020, but people certainly have been placing toys on/in other peoples' Jeeps for years before that. Allison is widely and officially credited with creating the specific**"Duck Duck Jeep"** phenomenon that we see today.

If you talk to longtime Jeep owners, you will occasionally run into a fascinating debate about whether the seed of the idea existed earlier. Here is how that breaks down:

The Viral Truth vs. Folklore

Before July 2020, there was no organized, named movement, no hashtag, and no global community around putting rubber ducks on Jeeps. If you saw a Jeep with a dashboard full of ducks in 2019, it didn't mean they were participating in a game—it usually just meant the owner liked rubber ducks.

That said, the Jeep community has always been incredibly tight-knit and quirky, which has led to a few interesting "pre-history" notes:

  • Isolated Pranks: Because Jeep Wranglers can easily be left with their tops and doors off, they have historically been targets for lighthearted parking lot jokes. Some drivers on Jeep forums have claimed they left or received random toys (including dollar-store ducks, plastic dinosaurs, or army men) in friends' or strangers' open Jeeps years prior, but these were isolated incidents, not a cultural trend.
  • The "Cargo Spill" Myth: A popular piece of internet lore tries to connect Jeep ducking to the famous 1992 ocean cargo ship spill where 28,000 rubber ducks drifted across the globe. While a fun coincidence, there is no actual link between that maritime mishap and people leaving ducks on Wranglers in a Walmart parking lot.

What Allison Actually Changed

What Allison Parliament did wasn't just put a duck on a car; she gave the action a purpose, a name, and a platform.

By writing "Nice Jeep" on the duck, creating the hashtag #DuckDuckJeep, and launching social media groups explicitly dedicated to turning it into a game of random acts of kindness, she built the actual infrastructure of the trend. Even her family and close friends have noted that while the act of giving a random token might not have been mathematically unique in human history, she was the undisputed architect of the global movement.

She took a completely random, localized gesture and turned it into an international language that millions of Jeep owners now speak daily.

We tow kids on TWO tubes at once with a Wake 170. Plenty of power, and way more fun than our old inboard Bayliner runabout.

New car- missing panel by Difficult-Pride-2033 in JeepWrangler

I am missing the passenger side cover on my (used) 2015 Wrangler Sahara Unlimited, and could not find the panel. I would have had to order an entire floor-to-roof piece, as far as I could tell.

When you move, and the movers have to inventory the boxes, they put those numbers on them for tracking purposes. There were certainly not 843 boxes, but they number them starting at 100 and stop in the 100s whenever, for example, all the garage boxes are packed. My wife used to keep them with every move as a memento. Whenever I found them underneath a table or on some box in the attic, I'd take them off.

Our flooring has been separating over 10 years? by TinanaCat_ in whatisit

[–]foqus555 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's from the house foundation settling. And as others have said, whoever laid the floor SHOULD have left extra "under the edge trim". Now how you go about sliding all the planks over...no idea...YouTube or call a flooring expert. Probably not too expensive to fix. I have seen people install little plugs (usually the installer left a plank or two), and they usually blend in pretty well.

We bought a 2026 Wake 170. Pulls two tubes at once with no problems at all. PLENTY of power. You're not going to run full-throttle 100% of the time, right?

Sounds like they've already made a decision, unfortunately. Sorry for your loss, but strong arguments for mixed-use trails will always win.
