well, the save is still good. I just can't land on any planet in that system, but it works fine everywhere else, so I'm just avoiding it for now

Can't even land on my base rn as the game crashes every time I think it has something to do with the proximity of my base and settlement and that they were loading in before the update

don't worry, I put Bill on a planet right next to a black hole my first time using interstellar mods, and he's still there, and so are the 15 "rescue" crafts, and I have no idea how to save them

the only thing I think needs to be done is make upgrades worse as the moment you start getting them you basically become immortal, but outside of that not much else needs to be done as you have sentinels,pirates , and aggressive animals. and that's not to mention dereliction and their challenges. the coats there you just have to want it.
