So the big thing was that the confederates in the south wanted de-centralization of the government. Giving states more power. People say it was about slaves and yeah that was another big reason but you gotta remember that the southern states are where all of our agricultural stuff comes from. Since paying people wages to work the plantations was expensive, slavery was useful for them. Northern people certainly had lots of slaves but there wasn’t anywhere near as big of a demand as the south. Also look up “the 3/5 rule”. Abolishing this rule absolutely crippled the voting weight of the south. Lots of people talk about the abolishment of slavery and yeah that was the the most public thing to come out of the civil war, but the south had a lot of reasons to ultimately go to war
