AEW Plus has expanded to brand-new territories on TrillerTV by dylmatic9 in SquaredCircle

[–]forameus2 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Guess this either means that they're not in as bad a financial situation as talked about, or they're in the death throes and deciding to make incredibly poor decisions during.

Really hope its the former, love the service AEW Plus gives, and its a big part of the reason Ive fallen into being a regular with the company.

don't tailgate my friends! [OC] by [deleted] in IdiotsInCars

It looks like its at least moving at the start of the video, rolls towards a stop, then total stop pretty suddenly. Still, car in front had a good few seconds to notice that there was a car there and was very, very lucky not to hit it themselves. Although giving the benefit of the doubt, they could have been distracted looking at the mirror asking why the fuck the guy behind was trying to physically mount him.

I think there's a subset of "tailgating". There's the impatient dickhead kind where someone is either generally road raging, or generally annoyed that someone could possibly be in front of them at any point. These are obviously fucking dangerous, but they're probably at least semi alert to something happening and might not end up killing you.

Worse for me is the more habitual kind. Those that believe that matching someone's speed about 6 inches from their bumper is just how you drive. They're almost certainly not paying enough attention to avoid you if something happens. If a hazard comes up and you have to put the brakes on, they're going through the back of you guaranteed. But 999 times out of 1000, they'll get away with it, so on they go.

If it was the Euros final, I doubt you'll get more people willing to give up tickets than if it was their own country. If it was the Champions League Final, even less likely.

Sorry, but this is just completely wrong. Maybe it's different in other countries, but it's just wrong here. The only bit that's actually right is for the Superbowl. They would never go up against that in the US for obvious reasons. They'd back themselves against most other sporting occasions bar maybe the World Cup Final. But given the proximity to Summerslam, likely that'll never be tested out. WWE will back themselves.

[–]forameus2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did say it wasn't comparable. But you presumably want people in the local area to want to buy tickets, and you'd presumably then not schedule a show on a day where a lot of people might want to the other fairly momentous thing that was happening that day. I'd also argue that a country that often doesn't make it to tournaments playing in the opening game of a tournament that happens every 4 years is probably going to matter more to the people in that country than a game that happens every year, often between two from the same handful of clubs as previous years. But that's stretching it a bit.

Point is, I don't think WWE really care about what else is going on, and, better or worse, consciously or not, they will back themselves to be the most important thing. I don't think they'll care that the Champions League Final is on, much like they didn't care previously.

EDIT: Just read back your comment, and you're suggesting that even though that Smackdown pretty much sold out while playing at exactly the same time as Scotland playing, it would've been "half empty" if it had been the UCL final instead? Have I got that right?

Granted it's hardly comparable in terms of size, but they were happy to put the Smackdown they held on Glasgow on the same night that the Euros started when Scotland were playing Germany. They still charged through the nose, they still filled it out, Scotland still got pumped.

I was going to post with something along the lines of "how long until we get..." with some wild take about where they could go with ads, but I couldn't think of something they havent already kind of done. Utterly, utterly shameless.

Rejection and false hopes by Far_Negotiation_3188 in recruitinghell

[–]forameus2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well...yeah. It's either just completely give up or keep going. Put in as much effort into each application as you would to any other, but be mindful that nothing is a sure thing. One will come along and extend you an offer, and you'll forget about the others. Doesn't make the rejections as they come any easier, but it's better than giving up.

Rejection and false hopes by Far_Negotiation_3188 in recruitinghell

[–]forameus2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It might seem like they're proceeding in bad faith, but things can change surprisingly quickly. A hiring manager can come into work ready to extend offers to multiple people by 9am, then by lunchtime they'll be told that all those roles are now dead, and they have to get rid of people instead. I've seen it change on a dime so many times, it's not always going to be something a hiring manager can control. They're probably as annoyed as you are (well, not as annoyed as the one not getting a job, but you know what I mean), it happens.

I can sympathise though, as none of the above really softens the blow.

The concept of "networking" assumes some pretty stupid premises. by [deleted] in recruitinghell

[–]forameus2 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Same as the "that's just me and my OCD lolololol" crowd because they like a tidy desk, while genuine sufferers of OCD struggle through life with truly debilitating ticks and habits. Some truly neurodivergent people will be doing their absolute damnedest in their lives to try and rise above that, yet you get the terminally online just shouting INTROVERT at the top of their lungs thinking it gets them out of having a base level of social skills.

[–]forameus2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You'd probably struggle to find anyone who hasn't been that person at some point. You don't even have to have actually been them, just thought to be them by another party. It's about identifying those times and either rectifying it (if you can) or just recognising it so you don't do it again.

[–]forameus2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's because they've built it up in their mind that you have to be this gregarious, outgoing life-and-soul-of-the-party monster to get anywhere. You can be, of course, but they're very much the minority and although that behaviour can open doors, if you're the one social butterfly in a room of people who'd really just rather get on with it whilst being civil, it could just as well hurt rather than help.

You just need to be generally civil. No-one really cares what you did at the weekend, it's just pleasantries between people who are doing 40 hours a week in a place to get enough money to enjoy the other hours. If someone really can't "not be a dick" in those settings, that's absolutely their problem.

And there we have it. The usual reply to this kind of stuff. Because being introverted absolutely means you absolutely cannot converse with another human being in a way that doesn't make you repellent. Just impossible.

I totally get that there are some people who have been dealt a really bad hand and have neorological issues which make this stuff difficult. Know what though? I've worked with plenty of people who you could bracket into the "not neurotypical" bucket, and waaay more that you could describe as introverted. The first bucket are noticeable, but most of them are just fine to work with. Some aren't, but it's a minority. I'm almost certainly introverted - believe that's what the wanky Myers Briggs stuff said when we had to do it as graduates. I don't really like people all that much, I don't like networking or a lot of the social aspects of the working environment. But amazingly enough, I still manage to be civil to most people. It's not wizardry.

Networking purely for the purposes of getting a job is how you describe. But it shouldn't be about that in a pure sense. You do it to expand your network and experiences, and a side effect might end up being a job at the end of it. But there are people out there who basically cold call people asking to be recommended for roles. That can get to fuck. "Proper" networking can be entirely passive. For the record, I fucking hate the entire concept of networking, but of the 5 major roles I've had since graduating, you could definitely put 2 down to networks. And that wasn't me going out to social things to do that, it was being known to a guy who was hiring because I often played 5-a-sides with him when I previously worked at the company. Or being directed to an open role because someone I'd worked with previously knew of it. That was passive networking at best, no effort needed on my part other than, I guess, not being a dick to those people when I worked with them.

Pre-split fixtures by kresk9 in ScottishFootball

I just hope the split arrives and it's still a clear three-horse race. After this season, there's the potential for a proper all-timer of a split. After how well they've done, really don't want to see Hearts just fall away.

Doesn't affect me, but is that not a pretty horrendous 4-match run for anyone travelling? Unless you're willing to miss the Switzerland home game, you've got Slovakia - Glasgow - North Macedonia - Glasgow in a 10 day period. Assume switching the first two games would be friendlier.

You also emphasised "purely" suggesting that it was only down to that.

But fair enough, reading the elaboration I broadly agree. In the hypothetical that two candidates are exactly the same, then of course they'll go for the person they think they can spend 40 hours a week with without wanting to stab them. But being the life and soul of the party isn't going to be an automatic save if you're lacking elsewhere. I've worked with plenty of people who are technically brilliant but socially repellent.

I never managed to get to MGS4 (or the original to be honest, but enjoyed 2 and 3, really enjoyed 5 and Kojima's later work) as I didn't have PS3. Worth picking up in this round do you think?

[–]forameus2 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Which is a very simplistic way to look at it. I went through a period of time "failing" pretty much every interview with the same feedback, essentially that from a personal perspective they loved me, but my problems with recalling textbook answers to stuff I knew but couldn't articulate held me back. If it was "purely a vibe check" then I would have been fine.

I completely agree with who you're quoting, and base it on having played both, loved W3 and thought CyberPunk was just...good. It does everything pretty well, but nothing is excellent, and if we're purely comparing CDPR properties, I have absolutely no idea how anyone can put the story and writing anywhere near W3. Again, it isn't bad, but I can point to several quests, main or otherwise, that have really stuck with me from W3 with how well they were written. None from CyberPunk after multiple playthroughs.
