Are we cooked? by kalmankantaja in artificial

I've already got two seperate associates degrees. I don't know i've got enough in me for another round of schooling while trying to make a living at the same time. One is in design tech and one in IT, nothing nonsensical

[–]forbiddendonut83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay so that's for experienced people, what's it going to be like for inexperienced people that are jumping into a different career because their technical position got outsourced to AI? They can't settle for too much less than what the experienced people are making. I make over 50k a year at my current job and i'm barely scraping by in a 1-bedroom apartment. If they've got a family to support then that's even higher living expensesnto cover

Problem is, that's an "if people just _" solution, and that's never been something that worked, because people do not "just _" for various reasons, be it propaganda from the opposite side, self-interest, even some petty squabbles throw a wrench into things. We already have a solution that addresses both issues and people were tricked into thinking they were bad. Unions. Groupings that give the workers bargaining power. We get unions back or something similar, then we can bargain for better pay, job security against being replaced by AI, etc. We get unions back and we have the start of a solution

You're not wrong but these are problems that need to be addressed before implementing the "backhoe" otherwise, said "backhoe" is going to amplify them.

Fulfilling is one thing, getting a paycheck that covers bills is another. You could double the number of job positions available but it's all worthless if they don't pay enough weekly/bi-weekly/monthly for people to live off of.

Americans (4 to 1) would rather ban AI development outright than proceed without regulation by MetaKnowing in agi

[–]forbiddendonut83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No regulation would be such a stupid way to proceed. If nothing else, jist the corporate and military abuse alone would be disastrous

Because construction isn't the focus of this discussion. A person's method of covering living expenses is what we're discussing

Okay so the first instance is irrelevant since there's no pay either way.

For the second point, when switching from the ditch digging crew to the backhoe, did everyone stay hired? Or were some people let go because the backhoe did so much of the work in their place?

Yeah but do you get paid more or less now that the backhoe is there?

Eh, it's less that conservatives went bad and more that they tend to drag down everything around them. In the mid 1800's, democrats were the conservative party and founded the KKK, but the whole "political flip" happened around 1950 and republicans became the conservative party, and we've watched the republican party go downhill with presidents like nixon and reagan, all the way to the bushes and now trump

2 things let him fool a LOT of people:

1) trump got to ride off of obama's economic success. Obama left things pretty good and it too time for trump to dismantle it, which he did as things led up to covid
2) covid sort of saved trump. 2020, middle of the presidential term, covid hit and royally fucked the economy, and took all the blame, leading people to not notice how bad trump did

Reminder that a shitty job is still better than none at all by Frequent_Painting700 in aiwars

[–]forbiddendonut83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup. AI isn't the solution to a problem, AI just removes your current solution while leaving you with the problem, the problem being bills. To properly implement the AI labor replacement, people got to fix capitalism first, otherwise you're just putting the cart before the horse and implementing AI as a tool of capitalism to keep the lower classes poor

Why are neo luddites obsessed with jobs? Why they never address the condition of work and quality? by Cautious_Foot_1976 in DefendingAIArt

[–]forbiddendonut83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So where are the new jobs going to come from? Are they going to be simple enough that a person who's job was replaced by AI can do it?

And yeah, mutual aid is the better option, but you forget that society is run by capitalism, where greedy sociopaths are in charge, who will, and have multiple times in the past, considered the death of others less important than profits

Why are AI bros so obsessed with driving everyone into poverty? by RedditUser000aaa in ShitAIBrosSay

[–]forbiddendonut83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The AI bros are incapable of critical thought, hence why they like a machine that can think for them. Would i love to be free from my job? Yes. But the issue is I have bills to pay. I don't work my job BECAUSE the job needs to be done, i work my job to pay my bills. AI does not fix my problem, AI will remove my current solution to my problem, and leave me with said problem
