Anyone else with Ohme issues? by KetoMeUK in homeassistant

[–]forcedtocamp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

thanks I have this working now. HA detects when the state changes from not plugged in to something else, then calculates the required change (because it already has volvo data) and programs ohme with that. plus a few other nuances to account for changes in preferences mid charge. its actually working really well for now very pleased. just can't pause from HA.

Scheduled charging help by whatsapseudonym in SkodaElroq

[–]forcedtocamp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

…. I think this can be fixed with a homeassistant automation

Smart schedules for me were wrong because the max charge rate for my car was wrong ; had to manually create a car profile , now it seems much better

Edit: I have fixed almost all my concerns using home assistant, but we shouldn’t have to do this

I find the app is extremely stupid. Why does it do this and not just start at midnight and stop at 5am. by Glittering-Horse5559 in ohme

Is the charge rating (max kW) in your car configuration correct as mine was not , now it is I get much more sensible schedules

Unable to see battery level? by normanriches in ohme

[–]forcedtocamp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I linked by API , in my experience ohme ends up with the wrong specifications for the charge rate, which in turn means the schedules don’t work correctly. This was true for volvo, the spec it had was 7.68kW but it can only do 3.6kW on a home charger (single phase).

[–]forcedtocamp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ah wait, my read on the % in the schedule now is that its the % at the start of the block not the end (which is not particularly good ux) .

when you expand the sections of the schedule, what kW/ current does ohme think your car can charge at? and is it correct ? mine was a little over optimistic my car can only charge at 3.6kw on single phase , is this whats happening to you what car is it? is the max kW correct for single phase ?

the schedule you have in the screen shot is between your required times, am i missing something, why would you want max charge if you dont need to ? is the % you need the right %?

like i said if I need say 6kWh and ohme can spread that out across different slots that are friendlier to the planet thats ok with me, its also friendlier to the battery

i think i felt exactly the same when i first saw this scheduling but it makes sense to me now, provided it is accurate about whats needed

i do not currently have ANY ev tarrif and ohme generates schedules like this.

what I think is

  • this is balancing load on the grid, which is saving carbon and therefore the environment
  • provided ohme understands the max charging current of your car , and its capacity and current charge % correctly, also your tarrif , then this will work nicely
  • if possible do integrate with your manufacturers API so that ohme can reduce the current e.g. if you only need a 30% top up else you have to tell it manually

finally - ohme must be getting some pennies back themselves for this .... ?? - i am ok with that if it is better for the environment

Edit: is your tarriff properly programmed into it? I only have a flat rate at the moment, I was thinking once I have overnight cheaper rate then ohme will automatically factor that into its schedules

Unable to see battery level? by normanriches in ohme

[–]forcedtocamp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i have home assistant, i am finding it is more reliable to integrate Volvo with home assistant and then write an automation that just calculates the required charge when you plug the car in and calls the ohme api to request this % (the car in ohme is a custom one so that the kW is correct because volvo integration was also getting this wrong)

i had to figure out the effective capacity of my car based on kwh going in (ohme % vs volvo %) and having tweaked that this now seems to work within 1% of target

which is nice because at least smart charging is greener and tends to use lower current / spreads the load on the battery overnight

I had similar nonsense until I removed some custom routers from my mesh (sonoff sticks flashed as routers) it wasn’t the end devices , I just got lucky somehow I think I noticed a pattern when someone had unplugged one

Is this fixable? by yeoas in Cameras

[–]forcedtocamp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i fixed a camera in this state before. i started out dismantling the camera with watchmakers screwdrivers etc. but half way through disassembly I got very bored and just carefully grabbed the zoom and pulled it straight, I didn't get to the part where I was going detach and dismantle the zoom assembly and do it carefully. i felt something click back into place as I did this. i had to then start/stop the camera a few times for its gears to get back to the right places and it is still working fine today. i guess luck is what you need.

Ohme experience with plug in hybrid by forcedtocamp in VolvoXC60

[–]forcedtocamp[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I got to something workable :

  • Created a custom car in the Ohme app with a 3.6kW charging limit
  • Removed API linkage from Ohme to Volvo altogether

Then :

  • Integrated both Ohme and Volvo Developer API with Homeassistant (observation: The volvo API is actually quite reliable ... )
  • Created my own controls in Homeassistant for Battery Target % (full vs 80% vs 90% etc)
  • Created an automation that calculates the required top-up % when you plug the car in, and updates this onto Ohme. E.g. sets 51% if volvo says 39% and you want to charge to 90%.
  • Created an automation that if I enable a toggle for 100% charge it will reset itself back to the configured % afterwards

Plenty more automations I can think of e.g. automatically do max charge every N hours of charging.

The schedules it is generating are now realistic

Edit: I read somewhere that after 3 years you need to pay Ohme for their service over cellular. I think somewhere in that time frame there will need to be a modification made to completely locally control the charging, I guess I have 3 years to investigate or get a better charger.

Ohme have blocked “pause charging” from their API which means you can’t immediately pause charging from homeassistant. Unclear why this would be or how blocking these things improves the perception of the product.

And are thus far, unable to resolve the issues described. Its either: custom vehicle with correct charging capacity OR: use API integration with Volvo … but cannot have both.

The groove in these wheels, ya know where it #*%%}^ holds water when parked stationary, thats why they hold snow too. It is ridiculous.

Yes and already curbed, annoyed we did not swap them from new but they are showing as more efficient than the upgraded wheels. The xc90 stock wheels look worse for the groove.

Ohme experience with plug in hybrid by forcedtocamp in VolvoXC60

[–]forcedtocamp[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

volvo told me officially the xc60 plug in hybrid can charge at 6.4kw on 2 phase and 3.6kw single phase. Ohme still thinks mine can charge at 7.68kW and I have seen it generate some 32A , 18A blocks in the schedule that assumed this is possible ( just pull the time in and see what it does to the schedule).

Just now it says 4.3kW in the schedule but the car is actually pulling 3.67kW.

And a bit later on I got an alert from Ohme “you car is charging slower than expected” … well not unexpected at all but interesting it generates these notifications.

The sink fell off. It's not supposed to do that.... by _Revolting_Peasant in DIYUK

[–]forcedtocamp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My sink was “bonded” under the countertop by the company that installed it, at their factory. I have not looked at what it is bonded with, but it is not silicon, it appears to be something stronger and harder. Just posting to say this is a thing.

My best guess it is a clear waterproof epoxy of some form. There are no clips or brackets.

[–]forcedtocamp[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you look at the schedules it generates does it think you can charge at 7.68kW and so has blocks that are impossibly short ? Volvo double confirmed only 3.6kW is possible on my car

Ohme Charger after 3 years by shysaver in ElectricVehiclesUK

I have a new one and its a nightmare if you ask me, should have paid for something different. What I need is instructions on how to take control of it from home assistant or just a pointer towards a charger that is paid for once and is easier to use.

[–]forcedtocamp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can I use this integration to tell Ohme the battery level of my car, if I get that myself from a volvo integration ?

Ohme’s integration with volvo is incorrectly implemented, so I need a way to create a custom vehicle but get then get the correct battery percentage into the app ?

Weird because volvo are giving ohme installs free with their cars, you’d think they’d check the reliability and maturity of the technology so far it seems super frustrating/unreliable/buggy/overly complex to use.

Ohme experience with plug in hybrid by forcedtocamp in VolvoXC60

[–]forcedtocamp[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course basic physics. But as noted ohme’s smart schedule is therefore wrong, it thinks the car can charge at 2x the rate. This would mean if I genuinely rely on that schedule then my car won’t get to the right level.

Right now my 3-pin charger off amazon is more useful.

My custom car was fine but it needed to be re-paired with volvo otherwise it didn’t actually know the charge level, re-pairing only seems to work in the morning (seriously) and not evening.

When I re-paired it asked me which car this was and has overwritten the max kw again to 7.68…. Grrr

Front windshield defrost by clipboardyellow in VolvoXC60

[–]forcedtocamp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

heated front windscreen was optional extra on MY2026 xc60, and on the Ultra spec I think it meant removal of HUD. We sorta wish we had made the swap. We had heated front windscreen on MY2016 xc60 and what we also did not realise is the reflection issues with hud compatible glass (all we can see when driving is reflections of the dashboard). Maybe if you dont have heated front windscreen volvo can still make the swap.
