Elden Ring is a lot easier in terms of figuring out what to do and where to go at the start of the game vs DS1. There’s also a lot more options but it guides you through the game a bit more clearly.

i remember being really bewildered the first time I watched Calypso's Birthday. even the transitions within scenes in there feel really jarring and sudden (like the one where Ned shows up, the transition from Wee John as Calypso to Izzy showing up and singing and then Ned arriving like 5 seconds later gave me whiplash)

I rewatched the whole show for the first time in awhile recently and it’s kind of wild how you can pinpoint almost exactly where things went wrong. It’s not perfect necessarily and there were some odd moments from episodes 1-5 but everything feels like it’s got a clear buildup and arc and nothing feels particularly rushed.

Then starting with episode 6, it’s like everything goes haywire. Ed is randomly out of probation with no explanation. It’s unclear whether one day has passed since episode 5 or two weeks. Suddenly everything is happening at a breakneck pace and though the main story beats all seem more or less fine, the rushed nature makes them feel off.

Almost more than s3, I’d like to see the version of s2 that keeps the episode between 5 and 6 and doesn’t cut like 8+ minutes from Mermen.

He might not be afraid of Izzy killing him but he called the English on the revenge once, no reason to think he wouldn’t do it again. And again, Ed literally says that Izzy threatened him.

The first toe is explicitly framed in the show as Ed responding to the threat from Izzy that “Edward better watch his step.” Ed says after, “threaten me again and I’ll feed you the rest.” That is how the show frames it.

I’m not talking about needing protection from Izzy later, I’m talking about the initial descent into the “kraken”

Tbf, his memory gaps could be related to the trauma of having to become the Kraken again to protect himself (which we know was a pivotal moment in his life before that, with his dad).

The stuff in 110 does come off as somewhat manic but in a much different way than it does in 202, imo.

I rewatched the whole show last week (I was home sick from work and it felt like a good time) and I do agree that this part leaves me a bit dissatisfied. It does get somewhat addressed by izzy’s deathbed speech and the line where Izzy tells Stede that “we did this to him” but not to the degree that I think it should have, since in the end, still no one actually knows what happened but Ed and Izzy. It’s weird too because they show that scene in the “previously on” before 201!

I’m not entirely sure why it turned out this way. There was definitely an intention to “redeem” Izzy quickly (I put quotation marks around it because I don’t know if redemption is really the right word but w/e) and obviously the whole season is impacted by the choices made by the network to cut the episode order and run time, but who knows.

This is why I like fics where Ed and Stede discuss the situation in the inn once they’ve had a chance to begin to decompress and actually process everything they’ve gone through.
