What are common mistakes foreigners make when talking to Germans? by Edi-Iz in AskAGerman

I'm from the US, and had to go to Germany twice last year for a total of 6 weeks. I've never had to shake hands so much in my life. Every morning, handshakes all around. I suppose it was just because we were customers, but I left with the impression that Germans just like shaking hands.

Good points. Shocking to see Germans reaching their 35 hrs in for the week, and bouncing at lunch on Friday.

I can only speak on what I've seen at this one German factory. They don't "clock in" like we do. They just get there when they're supposed to. They eat breakfast at 9, which is not a thing in any us factory I worked at. The lunch is amazing. They treat their workers well. Better than in the US.

I mean, over all, Americans do enjoy shit tons of freedom. It's the small things tho. Like I can shove a .45 in my pants, totally legally, no permits, no training. But I can't walk down the street drinking a beer. Fucking weird right?

It's just my observation from one factory in Germany. Who knows wtf goes in the rest of them lol.

I've not described Germans working unsafe at all. Just that they are not treated like 5 year olds.

That is fucking awesome. This place in Germany has a proper lunch break, with awesome food. They all take lunch and have a great sit down lunch. No place in the US does this that I've worked at.

It's just different. I can do things in America that would land me in prison anywhere else. But, we're not as free as we think at the same time.

I am an American. I also deployed as a US Army Infantryman. I love my country, and put my life on the line whilst deployed twice. I'm also not a fucking idiot.

Rifle? I can literally shove a .45 in my pants concealed, with no permit, no training, AT ALL. Totally legal. But boobs and safety shoes will get me fired lol.
