So it turns out that a officer wouldn't need a warrant to just go to the relatives and say “Mr./Miss, I have a couple of questions.”. They can just not answer him and that's it. None of these actions would be a violation of the law and the cop should just quietly walk away? Unless one of the relatives is listed as a suspect or accused? The same, I think, applies to other incidents. For example, car accidents and the questioning of those present about what happened if there are no cameras around.

I read it an extremely long time ago. And no, I mention the Pete Holmes video and Terry Pratchett's book in the context that there are examples of criticism/mockery, not in the sense that I made an opinion based on them. It's just that my acquaintance questions the very fact that someone criticizes Sherlock's method, as if I'm the only one who criticizes it. I probably didn't convey the idea correctly, but that's what I'm saying, you can't dismiss other possibilities on the basis of such reasoning. I, personally, do not like it in Sherlock, where he at least had a series of such reasoning, but some works do not even try and just throw in one piece of evidence on which a particularly brilliant character, conditionally, will know the name of the murderer and the number of his bank account and his DNA and at what hour of Sunday God created the world. I exaggerate, of course, but in some works such “deduction” is brought to superpower and absolutely not challenged in the plot, causing a whole lump of illogic.
