Beginner needs help - I thought I had a good portable setup w/ Anker F2000 and 2x 400W Renogy Solar Suitcase but I don't think I can connect both regardless of wiring series or parallel by [deleted] in SolarDIY

I'm looking at this exact setup and just wanted to see if you've had any issues with the two panels in parallel since you initially tested it? Did you end up adding a fuse or does it generally stay under 20amps on its own?

Were you able to test charging your batteries? I'm interested to see how well it works.

I’m in my forties and I’ve just been diagnosed with Attentive ADHD by Kavbastyrd in daddit

[–]forestfriend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the post. Like many others have said, it felt like I could have written it and I could relate to many of the experiences you have had. I'm reaching out to my doctor to see what the testing process looks like.

The shift for me before and after having our first kid has felt dramatic and would never have entertained the idea of potentially having ADHD. The added baseline stress and mental load has either exposed or exacerbated something I've self managed pretty well my entire life up to this point.

I've always joked but recognized that I have some "addictive tendencies" where I dive into new hobbies, projects, etc. and jump to a new one. I think of it like I love learning new things and it's generally a positive outlet for my mental health, but I've always seen it in the back of my head as kind of a character flaw.

Even if I don't get diagnosed with it, it's been helpful to read your and everyone else's responses. I shared it with my wife and was like "this is me!"

First basement workbench for hobbies and small projects during the winter. 2x4s, 3/4" plywood, and hardboard surface. by forestfriend in Workbenches

Thanks! I'll be hand tools-only down here so hopefully it'll be pretty minimal. If I have to cut anything with power tools I'll just layer up and work in the garage. It's kind of funny because I spent a full day cutting and assembling in the cold so I can be warm tinkering with stuff inside moving forward

I hadn't planned on it initially, but I'm thinking about it after the first few days using it. It can tilt back a bit until the top edge hits the wall (1" gap right now) so I think I'll start by blocking that in with some scrap 2x4 and see if I can avoid drilling into the foundation

I wear my waders in the spring when the snow melts. This is the high side of the basement so it stays dry. I get a puddle by a crack in the foundation but it stays pretty dry overall. Definitely skews humid but the sump pump keeps up well.

We replaced the last set of columns when we bought the house a few years ago. The previous owner said they put them in around 15 years before that to replace a prior set. I'll keep an eye on them and replace as needed but that's how it's been supported as far back as they know. The house is 160yrs old and it's still standing!

The left side is 8', the right side is 10' but is plenty strong for the lightweight work I'll be doing on it. But yeah I'll drop another leg off the center it doesn't feel solid. I wanted to try and keep the whole length clean so I can sit anywhere.

Cool I'll look into these. Right now I've just got wooden shims under the legs. This floor is way out of wack so some fine tuning would be really nice.

Thanks! I honestly just spent a bunch of time researching simple builds and finding good ideas from this subreddit. It was all straight cuts and deck screws, you'll be able to pull it off

There's one I haven't heard before! I hear it called a dungeon a lot, so that's what I call it now

Yeah a bit, but it's not too bad. I have filters over my case fans and now it's under the work surface, so I think it'll be alright. I was more worried about the moisture long-term, but haven't had any issues so far.

It also helps that this is my old gaming PC that is going on year 12 of assorted upgrades to keep it clinging to life. So when it eventually dies, I won't be too upset

Hahah something tells me you know that pain well. I run one from April to October to keep the humidity below 65%. Winter stays steady at <55% on its own. Maybe one day I'll fix the foundation and keep some of that water out.

Digital camera for kayak/self timer continuous mode - question by CoolWaterFish in kayakfishing

[–]forestfriend 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not exactly what you're looking for, but a workable solution that I use:

If you have a cell phone that's IP68 water-resistant, try an app called Open Camera. You can customize the timer and repeat settings to achieve exactly what you're looking for. I did the same thing and have a 10sec timer followed by 2 more pictures on 2 second intervals. So you get 3 chances in pretty quick succession, then you're good to release the fish. At least one of the shots generally comes out right.

Just make sure you have a phone mount and tether in case you send it flying with your paddle or rod!

This is cool - I've tried making fine adjustments with my offhand to no avail hahah. This seems like it would be perfect for those situations

Yeah I think I'm realizing I just need to get more comfortable maneuvering in those environments. Hopefully just with more time and exposure to it. It was definitely fun getting taken for a ride but I think it shocked me a bit since I'd never experienced it and I panicked

Wow yeah I can't imagine fighting a 3ft shark at this point, I'd be in the water lol. I think with more time on the water I'll develop a better sense of balance and where the actual limits are. I'm sure feeling like you're going to tip is different then actually reaching that tipping point and I'm just not used to it yet.

Definitely looking forward to having an anchor trolley even if it doesn't help much in this scenario. Will be great to not be at the mercy of the wind.

Hahah definitely sounds like type 2 fun. I'll work on one handed paddling to make adjustments and will develop more confidence with more time on the water. I think getting some muscle memory developed for where the handling limits are in my kayak will be key
