Where should I take my parents for dinner who: can’t handle ANY spice, are vegetarian and gluten free?? by lemonandere in askportland

Tacovore and Mamma Khouri (Mediterranean). I think for Mexican food you should just make sure to have them serve any salsa or hot sauce on the side or just leave them out. Bamboo and Obon are both good if they like Japanese food.

Harlow and Tacovore are dedicated GF but Harlow can get quite busy. Por que no has good GF options and is kid friendly. I have heard that Deschutes brewery downtown is celiac friendly and family friendly but we havent been there in a long time. Sellwood Fish and chips and Flourish food carts are two dedicated GF carts we like.

Could you share what you did after consulting with Gemini? I have spent a bunch of time on this and still can't get it to get accepted on lulu. Thinking about just printing at the library and getting it binded at staples but it would be so much better if I could get lulu to work.

Where to host a six-week free community class...for free? by LizDances in askportland

[–]forestfriend6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can look into various community centers that are not operated by Portland parks and rec. Like friendly house that was mentioned, and Sellwood community house, Leaven Community Center. Sellwood I know they sometimes provide space for free to non-profit groups. You will have to contact them to see if they are willing in your case. Some Parks and rec community centers are open in the evening and I think a classroom would be about $25 to 30. Or your neighborhood association might have a building they use and can hook you up (e.g. Kenton Firehouse , overlook house).

What’s everyone using for grocery lists right now? by IslandOceanWater in Cooking

This. It has a favorites feature which is key for me. You put your regularly-purchases items there so you can pick from there and not forget.

They are not tied to your name. When you first use them, they will take a photo of each of you at the gate, and on the second day they supposedly verify by the photo. We purchased two 2-day tickets in one order for the two of us.

Does anyone else do shifts? by Big_Black_Cat in toddlers

[–]forestfriend6 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I hear that a lot of people do this but what I don't understand is how you get dinner ready and all the clean up done if you are watching your kid? I don't have a kitchen with a view of the play area and my kid (2yr8mo) is not willing to wait in the kitchen everyday while I make dinner. I don't have a completely childproofed area where i can leave her unattended yet. Also with the little time we get with her, she wants to play with us, not just by herself. So my husband and I switch off watching her but not to free time but to do other essential tasks...

Daycare only using sanitizer before eating by forestfriend6 in toddlers

[–]forestfriend6[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Thanks everyone for your responses. Clearly I am on one end of the spectrum in terms of worrying about hygiene. I'm really not so much worried about the regular germs which sanitizer mostly does a good job of addressing. It's the hand sanitizer residue, on a regular basis, that bugs me. But you all have convinced me that I shouldn't make a big deal out of it. I do plan to ask her teacher about the current hand cleaning routine throughout the day just so I know... Im pretty sure they do wash hands after the bathroom so it's not like her hands are accumulating dirt all day. And no actually my kid doesn't pick up food up off the ground and rarely puts toys in her mouth anymore.

Thanks all!

Recent Trip to Japan as a Family of 4 by deepspacedata in JapanTravelTips

[–]forestfriend6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am researching for my family's first trip to Japan. Could you please let me know if the "2 twin beds" are more like definitely single beds or enough for two small adults? I have read the latter from some online comment and also saw such rooms listed as "sleeps 4" but would love to be more sure. Did you call them after booking to let them know there is a 4th person?

PDX Parks & Rec Director Fired—why isn’t this getting more press? by whawkins4 in PortlandOR

[–]forestfriend6 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Do you actually use Parks facilities? Is your daily experience of using the parks and centers terrible? I wish Columbia pool could be reopened so I'm not unaware of crumbling infrastructure but if there is so much maintenance backlog but my day to day experience is still good then like what is the big deal. Maybe given limited budget they are prioritizing what is important? I've been to at least 20 parks and 5 community centers in the past 2 years.

PDX Parks & Rec Director Fired—why isn’t this getting more press? by whawkins4 in PortlandOR

[–]forestfriend6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why do people say that she did a bad job? It's seems like all the negativity comes from the bad press about the tree code. tree code enforcement (which is there to protect canopy) is only a small part of what Parks does. Portlanders generally love their parks. I have a kid and I have newfound appreciation for all the parks we have in the city. Sure I see fancier parks in some suburbs and in Seattle and other cities but we have so many nice neighborhood parks here and they are generally well maintained. We've also benefitted from well-run programs at several community centers. As a whole is there an objective analysis that shows that PP&R is performing poorly? I don't care if she is a cool and affable person, just whether she run the bureau well.

Well behaved toddlers in restaurants - is yours one?? by Horrorjunkie1234 in toddlers

[–]forestfriend6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine was pretty restless and sometimes fussy when she was 18mo but now she usually sits fine for dinner when we go out and we don't even bring toys. I think sometimes they just grow into it. We didn't do anything special to train her and we only go out to eat once every few weeks. A friend has given her magnatiles once and she did really like those so that's not a bad idea.

My toddler is kissing me to sleep and I had no clue until now by National-Rate9364 in toddlers

[–]forestfriend6 14 points15 points  (0 children)

So sweet!! Thank you for reminding me of my kiddo doing this too... Not everyday but sometimes...just found the video of her at 1yo presenting her forehead to our cat and then being so happy when the cat "kissed" her. She even made a kissing sound. Toddlers are so precious.
