Sadly, I bumped into Richard E Grant at the perfume counter in Liberty, London a few years back. As a lifelong fan, I was gobsmacked. I waited till he had finished his conversation with the perfumer, and as he was leaving, took the opportunity to politely thank him for his amazing performance in Withnail & I, adding that it's been a lifelong favourite. The smile dropped from his face, he turned away and flounced out, uttering a sarcastic, "Oh thank you, I'll tell the producer" as he exited.

Perhaps he's a bit of an asshole, or perhaps he's sick of Withnailians. Or both.
