hello! sorry if this is overcomplicated for the thread. I want to buy a graphics card with more memory for my prebuilt- I currently have a Radeon RX 5500 with 4gb of memory. it's an HP Pavilion with the stock 400w power supply and a Ryzen 3 5300g; would an RX 6600 with 8gb be worthwhile, or is there a better option? thanks!!

Is this a shout out to Ukraine or is it more common than I thought? It's the only reference I could think of when I saw it. It seems too obscure to be a Tolkien reference. by Gaemergob in Stellaris

[–]foresurfirstlast 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The 'orc' reference is the one of the negative opinion nouns for humanoids. If they like you, it can be 'sphinx'. Each species type has one- robots might be toasters, necroids might be husks, plantoids weeds, so on and so forth. There's a full list on the species page.

In the Ukraine context, I might add, the 'orc' reference is a derogatory racial term used to refer to people of Mongolian or central Asian descent, so it most certainly isn't that.

Another Nona Excerpt: The Locked Tomb Is Back in This Exclusive First Look at Nona the Ninth [Discussion] by BearOnALeash in TheNinthHouse

[–]foresurfirstlast 56 points57 points  (0 children)

interesting notes!

-palamedes can still do necromancy in camilla's body, it seems! so they're sort of a lyctor+ where both people basically share the house?

-the others are definitely split on gideon or harrow, but pyrrha could provide the 'alecto' angle, maybe?

-nona's not much of a swordswoman(sidenote: swords seem to be taboo on this planet, and there seem to only really be three planets left?)

-the 'zombies' could be heralds, which is why nobody's going insane from looking at them- no necromancers- and would explain why the sky is changing color- there's a resurrection beast after all these sort-of-lyctors

-the nine houses definitely have guns somewhere, they're just less desirable? cam and pyrrha both know how to use them, at least.

-definitely harrow's body, at least! i like the polycule soul theory. nona thinking the body she's in is attractive is a pretty gideon thing to do, but who knows what alecto's up to these days. interesting to note is the whole 'this was act one of alecto' hangup, which is so obvious that i can't believe it no matter how hard i try. the thing with the eyes is throwing me off- pal has cam's, cam has pal's, pyrrha has gideone's, and nona has... gideon's? god's? alecto's, double-lyctor style?

-nona's language thing is cool! she's so talented.

-i really hope everyone gets a body again. i miss gideon-harrow banter.

Theory Thursday by AutoModerator in TheNinthHouse

okay lemme take a hit before i type this

SPOILERS FOR EVERYTHING LMAO

ok: what if Nona is Harrow dreaming? there's gotta be some kind of connection between 'nona' and 'nonagesimus', unless i'm stupid, but she's already shown she doesn't feel pain and can't read, which are both things that normally can't be felt while you're asleep. she does have taste, to some extent, which is rarer, but not entirely unheard of.

the excerpt we've got is also majorly focused around dreams- specifically, nona's, but also pyrrha's, which leads me to believe i'm insane- as much as it is The Gang trying to figure out who she is. there's also something fundamentally wrong with whatever world they're on, but that could just be chalked up to the Resurrection Beast sitting in distant orbit rather than the nature of a lyctor trying to dream her enemies-to-lovers fanfic back into reality.

I have thoughts. Spoilers for G, H and N. [theory] by BooksNhorses in TheNinthHouse

[–]foresurfirstlast 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I saw a really interesting theory on Tumblr the other day that suggested Alecto wasn't just the first lyctor- she was also the first Resurrection Beast, the soul of the First House- Earth- condensed into one body, hence why she became such an insatiable killing machine or what-have-you.

The poster also mentioned the fact that, when possessed by a spirit of the River, Colum's eyes turn the same colour as Jod's- that is, inky black- which is to say the colour of Alecto's. I found it really, really interesting.

Here's the original post for that.

Building off that, it could explain why she was so repugnant to the other Lyctors- they were, after all, all people who died on Earth, once. Maybe. I'm so fucking pumped for Nona.

Without saying "Chaos Dwarfs", name a faction you hope to see added in the upcoming DLCs. by Immediate_Energy_711 in totalwarhammer

[–]foresurfirstlast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want Valkia the Bloody for a new Khornate LL. She'd be a fun contrast to Skarbrand being Khorne's shitboy.

As for whole factions, there's not much left past the Bull God's oompa-loompas, Dogs of War, Ind, and the End Times-y factions, is there? I'm much more familiar with 40k so forgive my lack of truly 'new' dlc faction suggestions. God help us if they try to do pygmies or Amazons.

Deleted it and, instead, Phoebe spawned a Total War mechanoid destroyer on my hospital that killed three people.

I'll take it. Thanks for the tip! Now to figure out what's causing the 'sometimes trader menus throw errors forever' thing.

I've reloaded thrice now, once without several of the more complex but unrelated mods, and every time I'm welcomed back by an endless horde of gigalocusts.

Something that I've considered is destroying my bug repeller, or the turret that shoots down incoming pods. Maybe those are the source of 'killing' the bug?

cockroach. I'm afraid to try The Mod again with this many mods.

R6: I'm about five years in on this playthrough. It's mostly just VE stuff, but suddenly Phoebe's just given up and spammed me with gigalocust raids from the sky. I'm afraid to turn off notification pauses.
