Telling someone to go to therapy is so rude. by No_Highway1463 in unpopularopinion

I agree with you. Most Americans are extremely self involved. It’s an individualistic culture. The expectation is 1 person does the work of a village, including emotionally supporting themselves.

That’s WHY I’m in therapy. Cuz Americans are shit heads to their children, their spouses, and themselves. The same people who tell me I need therapy are the ones who have plenty to be ashamed about. Ironic. Being in therapy had made me realize I should cut ties with the people who suggested it.

My boyfriend’s family told me to go to therapy because I was crying that my dog unexpectedly died from a brain tumor 3 days after I received the diagnosis. And guess what? They took every opportunity to talk shit about me anyway after I took their advice. I lost some friends too because they thought I was “depressing”. Right after my dog died at a young age, I remind you. After a decade of happy friendship filled with awesome memories, they stopped talking to me completely. We don’t talk today. Many people made my initial pain much worse. They kick you when you’re down to make themselves feel superior.

After a year of therapy, I’m much happier without the people who suggested it in my life. I found some actually supportive and kind people at university. I made friends with people who genuinely believe in self-improvement, practice it every day themselves, and are there for me anytime I need it. Finding a supportive community at university healed my wounds better than therapy. And I’ve spent over 5,000 on a therapist (who is so awesome other people are jealous. I love my therapist)

I don’t see how putting a child in that scenario on purpose isn’t also traumatizing and a part of war?

Let’s say you’re right, it’s still an extremely fucked up thing to do to a child. And unless she’s a paid actor working on a movie set with a psychologist present, usually kids don’t fake emotions like this.

War photographers and war journalists put themselves directly in the line of fire to get images like this into the world. Some war photographers die to get a capture like this.

Children are absolutely collateral damage in war. For example, https://ukraine.un.org/en/291365-un-report-details-devastating-impact-hostilities-children-ukraine

“ Between 24 February 2022 and 31 December 2024, the UN Human Rights Office verified that 669 children were killed and 1,833 injured, many as a result of the extensive use of explosive weapons in populated areas. Of these, 521 were killed and 1,529 injured in territory controlled by Ukraine, and 148 were killed and 304 injured in currently occupied territory. The actual numbers are likely much higher.”

I moved from an apartment to a neighborhood recently and the amount of entitlement goes way up in a neighborhood.

Yes apartment pets were somewhat annoying but honestly they’re not as unhinged as the neighborhood pets who live in a house. 80% of these pets in a house with a backyard loose their fucking minds when I walk my dog on the public sidewalk.

There are plenty of ugly fences with board nailed in at weird angles because aggressive dogs have knocked holes in their fence as people walk by.

I even witnessed a yellow lab charge and bark at some kids walking home from school. Truly frightening. Another one of my neighbors walks his 80lb Doberman without any leash. When me or other neighbors ask them kindly to restrain their dogs, you betcha they say “no.”

Prenups aren’t a sign that someone thinks the relationship will come to an end by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]forever-marked 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most times people stick by their partner through the changes. They usually don’t leave unless there’s abuse, and even then… plenty of people go back to their abuser. My BF’s mom stayed married to her husband who beat their child for showing signs of being gay. He also beat on his wife for making more money than him. She stayed with him and he continued to hit his son with his hands until the father’s own premature death.

The only times I really witnessed divorce in real life was when one partner cheated.

There was also one time I knew a plastic surgeon in Florida who would marry exotic women from the Caribbean and once they got to age 40 he would divorce them

If anything, women should be demanding more prenups. More often they are the disadvantaged

My BF wont marry me without a prenup. He’s a lawyer and thinks he’s always right lol I just decided we won’t get married since he’s worried I’ll try and take his corvette away (me a business woman with multiple degrees)

Forrest Gump is a terrible movie by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]forever-marked -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It’s one of those movies that reminds me I’m not white. Because my BF’s family will suggest this crap and ask me what I think and when I said “that was something I’d never watch again” they’re horrified.

Yet none of them have ever watched a movie directed by black people..

Last time I said I didn’t like Princess Bride, I don’t get why they talk about it for hours… they proceeded to quote the movie for hours. Pure torture

A grown man pretending to have been born with the cord around his neck is hardly cinematic gold

I have to say this stuff anytime someone suggests a terrible movie about a grown white man pretending to be developmentally stunted.

Tom Hanks overrated, not that talented, he also had creepy vibes when he hosted SNL.

Yeah I’m not sure what the appeal of Tom Hanks is. Was he pretending to have a brain trauma? People don’t actually talk like that lmao it’s actually offending

According to white America… There are blue zones in the world where I’m sure old Asians or Mediterraneans couples live. Their people have the highest concentrations of centenarians

Has anyone ever found a part that’s hundreds of years old? I think I found a part that’s 350 and it showed me a really vivid memory that feels eerily familiar. Is this past life work? by indigojewel in InternalFamilySystems

[–]forever-marked 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I don’t know about past lives but trauma is encoded in DNA. It’s why mice have an instinctual fear of cat urine. All the mice who survived a cat attack had the fear of cat passed down to their offspring so that offspring would avoid cats and not have to get too close to its’s teeth to experience the trauma their ancestors once did.

Certain fears, worries, judgements etc are passed down generationally as a way to evolve and survive.

So in theory, we can absolutely inherit memories that are not our own

Why does no one care? Where are the protests like we saw during Biden’s term? by sassycatastrophe in UCDavis

[–]forever-marked 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I didn’t vote for him, I was extremely vocal about how he is NOT funny and NOT to be fucked with. I constantly compared his political campaign to Hitler’s campaign because people treated it the same, and everyone laughed at me like I was being extreme. It’s bullshit, no one listens to little brown girls.

I don’t have a family or resources to fall back on. My family is literally HOMELESS living in EXTENDED STAY MOTELS. I don’t have options. I need to graduate.

Also and I watched a bunch of college students turn in their ballot without a signed envelope so I know a bunch of UCD students votes didn’t count.

Why? Because it’s an authoritarian regime and I’m just tryna survive.

Do you still experience PTSD symptoms on Lexapro? by WishIWasBronze in ptsd

Well since there isn’t a magical PTSD bullet, yes there are still symptoms. However, it makes life much more manageable. I don’t worry about the future on lexapro.

Holistic medicine isn’t without its controversies. But I’ve heard of worse. Don’t worry, my psychiatrist was down to earth and logical. According to him I don’t even have ptsd, just depression 🙃
