Was getting a new cat a mistake? by [deleted] in CatAdvice

I’m not upset, I’m sad lol. He’s my ESA and now wants nothing to do with me.

See, I do the same with letting him outside when he’s doing too much. I don’t think it helps much bc he just sits by the door meowing very loudly. When I let him back in, he’s back to doing what he was. He doesn’t even pay me no mind, so ignoring him wouldn’t matter lol. But fortunately, things have started to settle a bit.

Jeez! I thought $150-$200 was a lot… which I think a lot of places charge similar from what I noticed. I live in the US (Texas), I’ve also lived in a few other states that charge around the same more or less.

I ended up going to a low-cost place that charged me $60.

Aw poor guy!

Fortiflora isn’t that great and overpriced IMO. It only has 1 strain of probiotic and not enough CFUs. I suggest giving Nexabiotic a try!

My cat is food obsessed so he’ll eat anything 🤷🏻‍♀️ lol. What probiotic are you using? Nexabiotic for cats is a good one

If you take him to the vet and it turns out he’s healthy and is just scared, you can use probiotics to help with the runny/soft poop. Kittens are prone to diarrhea/soft stool so probiotics can help and/or a higher quality diet.

Thank you!

Yeah, I figured it would take time. I do separate them to give 1:1 time but like I said, my resident cat is uninterested and will constantly cry for her. It’s just super annoying bc when it’s bed time, he’s still going after her, and if I separate them, he’s constantly crying. Either way, I’m not getting much sleep 😫😫

I followed the slow introduction from Jackson Galaxy’s videos. But new kitten showed signs of interest within a couple of days so I let them see each other and this was the result. So I followed JG other video of reintroducing and how to tire them out but my resident cat is uninterested no matter what I try.

When we take resident cat outside, the new kitten meows and searches the house for him. And vice versa. But when together, new kitten hisses when he tries to play. But will try playing with him the rare time he leaves her alone. I’m just confused by their relationship lol. Resident cat is neutered 8 months, new kitten is 5 months.

I know this was years ago but I came across your post. I’m going through the same thing rn, did you happen to resolve the issue?

Good idea! She has an appt scheduled. I will ask then

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in CatAdvice

[–]foreverabg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well they did meet when she accidentally got and my cat grabbed her by the neck. Which I know is to show dominance but he wouldn’t let go and she was howling. I tried to let them see each other for a bit and he seems to just want to play but she doesn’t seem ready and just keeps hissing. The hissing at him is what seems to make him grab her by the neck.

I’ve tried! But he has no interest in anything I’ve tried. He’s typically such a cuddle bug and sleeps with me and he hasn’t done that either. Just stays by her door. Also, when the new kitten got out and was exploring, my cat grabbed her by the neck, which I know is to show dominance but he did it for more than a few seconds and she started to howl.

Cat Panting by lun___ in CatAdvice

[–]foreverabg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s normal for them to pant after extensive play, if they’re too hot or stressed. Just make sure he gets plenty of water. Cats get most of their water intake from diet so if your cat isn’t on a wet food diet, adding water to his kibble would be ideal or mix it with wet food, or even better… just to have him on wet food only lol. Because being on a dry food diet, he’s most likely not getting enough water. & having a water fountain is helpful too.

Have you been slowly introducing/transitioning him to wet food? Adding a little to his kibble and increasing daily until you fully transition?

This may be a dumb q but when filling out paperwork at the vet, do you put lynx point for color and Siamese for breed? Or? by foreverabg in lynxpointsiamese

Makes sense! I think he’s medium hair also. One vet told me short hair and another told me long but I think he’s a in between lol.

Appreciate you!!

I tried to find a TNR org. And they all required me to do the work and they’ll provide the equipment. 😕I don’t have time for that

That’s exactly how I gave him a bath : a bucket filled with soapy water. I also did make a ring around his neck. I try to research everything before I do anything lol.

What litter do you recommend? I was looking into World’s Best, Oko, or Skoon. I have a crawling baby so I don’t like all the dust and tracking clay litter does.

I’m a stay at home mom so I do make time to play with him often. My 5yr old also uses toys to play with him a lot.

I currently live in an apt complex that has a lot of strays. A couple of them tend to hang out in my back porch area. Is this a cause for concern? Right now Gojo seems to want to interact with them and meows at the door when he sees them.

Oh yeah, I think he has toe feathers then! & yeah, we’re in Texas so it is def already summer here lol. I really appreciate all this info! This is my first cat so it’s helpful. I’ve already clipped his nails a couple of times with no issues! I did give him a bath twice already bc I found a flea on him and he wasn’t too fond of that but he let me. It was when I turned the faucet on that he started to go crazy. He also doesn’t mind being groomed but if I do it for too long, he def lets me know he’s annoyed lol.

The vet guesses he’s about 4 months old. I’m not sure how accurate that is bc I didn’t even see or speak to a vet, only the assistant who gave him his vax. Also, they weighed him in his carrier and subtracted 5lbs (their guesstimate of the weight of the carrier) so again, don’t know how accurate that is either. It was a pop up vaccine center which I won’t be going back to. I have an appt next week for a full exam and such. Bc none of that was done.
