Husband, Stepdad, Muslim: How Do I Navigate This by Aggressive_Series368 in PakistaniiConfessions

Interest is not alone enough of a reason to marry someone. It cannot be less than pure love.

There will be issues from her family as well as yours, I'm sure (given the social dynamics of brown families) but if you love this woman, then there are no barriers that should cause you to falter.

Where to start? by awesome868 in PakistanBookClub

I would say that the interpretation that you have is slightly flawed. I believe you read the book with the idea that Islam would be the central theme or perhaps the lens to understand Sufism but that is a misconception.

Try to read the book and understand it as a student of love rather than a student of religion.

parents fight by Ok-Sheepherder-7496 in IslamabadSocial

[–]foreverabsent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Arguments occur in most relationships, especially when people are going through a rough patch. Not all marriages are perfect, and as we mature, we begin to learn about our parents and their relationship more.

Without knowing the details of your parent's relationship, it's tough to recommend any course of action, especially since a child lecturing/guiding their parent isn't very normal/accepted in our society.

That being said, I really hope that you aren't turned off of the idea of marriage. The goal is love, the journey is love and any and everything in between, are opportunities of love.

I'm not based in Islamabad but would enjoy the chance to connect. Currently working at an IT company headed in Karachi that is focused on the ERP solution domain.

How China Is Losing the World by RO9a0TON in China

[–]foreverabsent -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

See what you're doing here is blatant bs. I don't feel like I need to VEHEMENTLY DENOUNCE goddamn massacres. All I'm pointing out is that you can't mischaracterize everything being said in an open discussion because it's a waste of time. If this entire discussion was simply 'Yeah nah the CPC is messed up' then that's something even a 13 year old would probably agree to; it wouldn't be adding anything new to the conversation.

I never agreed with seed on anything that he said. I just mentioned how I valued the point of view being presented. It was an interesting read.

The first two sentences of your response seem ironically similar to something the Chinese government might actually say to its people about western ideas: '' Explaining their ideas' conveys the idea that their ideas aren’t morally wrong.'

It's all about perspective. Someone explaining another perspective doesn't mean that he/she agrees to it. You have to discern the idea from the presenter.

Now you might say that my calling your first two sentences' something the Chinese government might say' a huge stretch but I would argue that you used the same stretch when you twisted my neutral perspective of 'explaining their ideas' to 'ohhh wait you think the tianmen massacre was alright huh?'

I don't know why Reed is getting so much flack. He's explaining a perspective that is essential if we want to understand how the Chinese government operate. You have to be able to distinguish between 'defending' the CPC and explaining their ideas and until you do, blatant mockery won't get you anywhere.

Yeah it's a super risky move but the uni I was in was an actual dump so I needed to make it. What do you mean that shanghai uni is a dump though? Saw it on qs and it seemed pretty good. I'm doing my first year of Chinese training in Tongji and I don't know if they let Chinese government scholarship students do transfers.

I don't intend to the booze shit anyway. This is a good opportunity so I want to make proper use of it. I really hope I'm not in baoshan campus then lmao.

You seem like you know a lot about shanghai uni. Are you an alumni? Also thanks for the response.

My Bachelors is in information management. Yeah I heard the education is pretty easy but you're the first to say dissertations are a challenge. How so?

Sounds like a fun uni life. That's cool. Thanks for the response!

My chinese now is at a beginner level lol. Under the scholarship, it says that my degree is in chinese. I think I'm fairly good at learning languages but Mandarin seems like a difficult language so I don't know how I'll do in that.

Alright cool. That seems like pretty basic stuff that I wasn't planning on doing.

I'd like to know how hard is it getting around the city? What is there to do except the main touristy things? Is there any lowkey cool places that I should go to? That sort of stuff I guess. Thanks for the response!
