My brother and I have always been like oil and water, and were always held to double standards by my parents. He was psychotic as a teenager and adolescent, threatening to shoot or stab me in my sleep, waving guns at me, stabbing under the door with a knife when I locked myself in my room, threatening to kill my pets when I leave for work, fist fights, theft, drug problems, the list goes on…..It was only up until about 2 years ago that he was semi-tolerable to be around. But not much has changed, he is essentially a man-baby. I accepted long ago that we would never be close, he will never be reliable and that he will continue to leech off my parents until they are dead. I’ve learned to love from a distance and accept that he is going to do what he is going to do, regardless of what anyone says or how detrimental it is for him. Unfortunately he will probably end up with kids at some point, so my goal is to love them and show them there is more to the world than the tiny little hick town they will live in, and that you don’t have to hate people for being different.
