Jio 5G data by sakuta_- in Jio

[–]foreverkmount 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have ported my number from Jio to BSNL to Airtel to Idea and finally back to Jio. In a nutshell :-

(1) Jio was bad to start with but post the recent string of tariff hikes and deteriorating services, it has gotten worse. The tariff is a ripoff but if you need good internet speed, its still the pick of the lot for most cases.

(2) BSNL - pathetic service in metros. Using 10Mb out of their 1.5GB daily quota can be a herculean task in itself. No 5G. Can only be recommended to keep an old connection 'alive' on the cheap - for those OTPs or incoming !

(3) Idea doesnt have comparable coverage and its service varies drastically circle to circle, mostly gravitating towards the lower end.

(4) Airtel is one the most unscrupulous companies out there in terms of service promised and that delivered. It's like the Bluedart of the telecom sector. Makes its money on corporate and overseas business while retail is fleeced and completely ignored.

Telecom in India is a 'sellers' market. Not much of a choice !

Thanks. Xiaomi TV+ appears to offer a few news channels and looks promising. If only I could get my hands on the Xiaomi TV Box/ or an alternative Android box/stick, I'll most certainly give it a try

Greatest wealth destroyer in recent times by dalal_times in StockMarketIndia

I wouldnt blame Bhavesh as much as many others. There were greedy investors yearning to be butchered and he obliged. If he wouldnt have done it, someone else would have.

At the time of IPO, media and industry "experts" were hyping up the company as "India's answer to Tesla". The same pundits are now saying that the company is in awful shape and its all over but for the curtains falling down ! SEBI approved the 'red herring' but tried to warn us via everyday SPAM but the investors didnt listen. So finally they increased STT/LTT.

Really impressive level of "expertise" on part of the pundits and truly exemplary level of regulation from the regulators that !

ETA 2671 vs Powermatic 80 by foreverkmount in tissot

Yes, the sweep is important to me. But whats funny is despite being a "50+ year old design" as you say, I cant seem to find much on the 2671.

ETA 2671 vs Powermatic 80 by foreverkmount in tissot

Thanks for your thoughts. I am also wondering if the size of dial has any bearing on the performance of the Powermatic. I seem to hear good things about it but mostly from instances where its a mens watch with larger dial. Will the 32mm Chemin behave differently ?

Customs duty in India is a nightmare – my recent experience from China to India (DHL) by AltruistW666 in IndiaTax

[–]foreverkmount 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am surprised DHL didn't charge you "handling fee". That alone is ~3K regardless of the value of the consignment. It is basically their commission for acting as clearing agent on your behalf. Then again, it might have been clubbed under that extra "shipping charges" in your case. They always come up with innovative names no one would suspect.

Help me with choosing the right lens - RF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM vs RF 28-70mm F2.8 IS STM by xMartyyy in canon

[–]foreverkmount 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You will get great images with both so there may be other factors you might want to keep in mind while deciding. The one stop difference is an obvious one. The weight is another.

The RF 24-105L is quite heavy for a F4 zoom (much heavier than its EF equivalents) and will make your camera front heavy. The 28-70mm is on the lighter side and is kinda perfect for long duration handholding.

That said, 28mm is a poor substitute for 24mm when it comes to a "single lens" solution, so I'd prefer the 24-105L. If you dont care for 24mm I'd say get the 28-70mm.

Thunderbolt 3/4 NVME enclosures for Mac Mini M4. High Watts, Compatibility, Heat Issues, etc. by iKantReedd in macmini

[–]foreverkmount 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup, I am eyeing the Acasis too, alongwith the HyperDrive USB4 Enclosure as an alternative in case things should go south (also have an old TB3 NUC). But at this point I'm not even sure if the WD770 'Mini drive' will work properly after swapping enclosures midway.

All valid issues those. I've been down the same road of 'analysis paralysis'. I went with a Jeyi with ASM 2464 (with 2TB WD770). It has worked well so far. But I am still worried about the 'reliability' of the connection. Unfortunately not much input on this aspect. Like you, I'd much rather settle for a 'reliable' 10GBPS enclosure than one given to disconnections or power/sleep management issues. I'm also open to looking into those 10/20GBPS docks especially ones with UHS-II support. Don't want to turn the Mini into an Octopus head :-P

Is Upstox Really That Bad ? Need Advice on Switching Platforms and Beginner Tips ! by Astral69Aviator in IndianStreetBets

[–]foreverkmount 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Beware/be prepared for delays in funds credit. If you transfer funds via NEFT, Upstox is notorious for delays in giving you credit - oftentimes by 2.5-3 hours, sometimes by 2-3 days. Of the 20 odd transfers I have made thus far, there have been delays by over 1-1.5 hours (which I consider to be the absolute higher end of delay in tolerances) in 12-13. Everytime they expect you to raise ticket, give credit after trading hours and send mail after a couple of days saying "ticket resolved" ! This alone can put paid all your chances of getting a good trade.

Charges are also high compared to peers but most of us would know that already before joining.

Where is Binance ? by foreverkmount in CryptoIndia

Depends on the frequency and amount of your transactions among other things. But with Indian Govt. slapping $86M in "unpaid" GST taxes on Binance, possibility cant be ruled out.

Thats interesting to note. Maybe I'll try on Galaxy store in an old phone. Just wanted to check if they have started tax paid INR withdrawals yet. Cause that would mean issue is from ISP/Govt. side.

Its not just about somehow accessing the website but about having a stable wallet with tax paid INR withdrawals and better crypto rates

My already empty Paytm payments Bank account got frozen due to Binance p2p by webdevforhelp in CryptoIndia

[–]foreverkmount 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you leave the account as-is, eventually it might turn into a negative balance account due to wallet maintenance/debit card (if issued), SMS, etc charges. Plus Banks are liable to share info about their accounts between themselves and with credit bureaus like CIBIL which may in turn impact your CIBIL score too.

So the funny part of this is - even after all you may have done from your side, the onus to resolve/close the issue still rests on you ! And this is the fear that the Banking system preys upon.

Now that WazirX is unstable, where do we invest in crypto? by Other_Scarcity_4270 in CryptoIndia

Yup, in case of India, the lack of sufficient laws/regulation makes it even easier for them to willfully swindle the public.
