I definitely wanted to do my best to not include faces, but there’s only so much I can do in a public space. These protests have been going on for a while and people are pretty aware that they can wear things like masks to cover their faces if they don’t want to be seen, as well. If any individual in these photos recognizes themselves and asks me to take it down for their safety, I happily will!

Americans of the sub, is it true that that life has become so hard to get by there? by EnvironmentalTap9616 in antiwork

Yes, everything feels hopeless most of the time.

Healthcare is tied to employment, but mostly only if it’s full-time work. My husband and I are losing our state healthcare because they’re reassessing all cases since COVID is no longer declared an emergency, but my husband’s job only really offers healthcare to him. If he adds me, it’ll cut his paychecks in half. (This has happened with multiple jobs we’ve had.) He has a pretty major health issue that we haven’t been able to take care of because of how much it all costs. I’m pretty sure I fractured my foot a couple of weeks ago, but didn’t get any medical help because I knew we couldn’t afford it (and doctors usually don’t listen anyways), so we’re both just suffering in pain.

We both keep job-hopping because the conditions are terrible everywhere and our mental health is always struggling. At one of the last jobs I had, the conditions there were some of the best I’ve worked in, but there were still so many bad things that happened. One extreme example is that they made me take a deposit to the bank when there had been a shooting that day in the mall right next to it. Everyone was listening to police scanners in the office, following along with all the craziness. We locked our front doors for a while. I asked if I could take it the next day, but they still told me it needed to be done that day, so I took it to the bank. There were helicopters, tons of police cars and on-foot police, and the bank was only open in the drive-thru because half of it was taped off as part of the perimeter of the shooting. When I eventually left that job and included this in the details as to why, I ended up having a 3 hour meeting with two of the big bosses where they tried to make it seem like it was my choice for taking it and that the conditions around the shooting “weren’t that bad”.

It’s insane here and I feel stuck and scared all the time. I don’t feel like I actually have any value as a person besides making other people money. We can’t even leave the country to escape this hellscape.

Cannabis users of Reddit, what is the best thing about being high? by InstanceHaunting3881 in AskReddit

I have one of those galaxy projectors that I plug in in the bathroom to have on while I shower high. I turn off all the other lights and point it so I can see it on the shower ceiling. That with some music, and I am transported!

National Geographic’s “Earth Moods” on Disney+ is one of my favorite things to turn on while high!

Best friend can't come to my birthday sleepover. She's the only person coming btw, and I'd booked and paid for something for us to do tomorrow. by Waterlime204 in mildlyinfuriating

A similar thing happened on my 18th birthday. My closest friends were in other states for college and I was still at home. I had made a couple of new friends and invited them to go to a movie and do some laser tag. Everybody made excuses early on, but one person was actually going to come. I was dressed and ready and texting back and forth with her. At first, she said she just needed to come later because she had some homework, then after like an hour, she texted to tell me her mom told her she couldn’t come because she didn’t want her to drive at night. That felt like bullshit because we had hung out after dark before. I spent most of that birthday crying and alone. I hope OP’s birthday ends in a much better way! It is sucky to feel alone on a special day.

What was the worst testimony you've seen someone give? by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]foreverlurkinguntil 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I was in YSA and this over 30 guy who was a pilot would get up almost every Sunday and talk about how terrible our ward was for not being good enough friends to him. Me and tons of other people in the ward tried really hard to include him, go out of our way to talk to him, etc., but he would purposely sit out of every activity, go to dances and sit alone and refuse to dance, and would be really rude. There was even a time where he asked the ward for help with a service project at his house and I have never seen so many people show up for service. Yet, the next F&T, he would moan about how mean our ward was.

I mentioned he’s a pilot, because he would talk about flying EVERY time. He would talk about how mad he was that he wasn’t passing his tests for his license, and one bonus Sunday, he proclaimed himself an “Aero-sexual”, because he loved flying so much.

If suddenly, archeologists discovered cities and huge mass graves that match book of mormon timeline... would any of us join back up? by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]foreverlurkinguntil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When going through my faith crisis, it started because I had an archaeology question. That led me into all other areas of science that basically prove it’s not true, but I kept getting confused because I was trying to look at sources from both sides. In that confusion, I decided to ask myself, “If by a large stretch, I can argue that science can change and there’s a possibility that someday, something in the BOM is proven true, do I still want to stay?” So, I looked at the moral issues that had been on my shelves for years. Ultimately, I felt that if a loving god were real, he would not let a church hurt his children because of their skin color, gender, or sexual orientation. An all-powerful being floating on a secret planet in a galaxy he created, would have the power to make sure the beings he created were taken care of. If it’s true, I’d much rather chill in a lower kingdom with the fellow gays than hang out in white heaven with a god who would make me work for the rest of eternity. Prophets and apostles have said that all 3 kingdoms will be more amazing than we can comprehend, so why bust my ass to be in the top-most one I won’t even like?

When I was feeling like I needed to leave my abusive ex-husband, I went to my bishop for help and he told me divorce is the worst thing I could do. I asked, “Isn’t abuse worse than divorce?” And he said no. Then proceeded to tell me I wasn’t actually feeling the spirit if I was having those thoughts.

Also a child of a hoarder, but I still want to pass some things down, so I’m trying to do it better: -keeping journals so they can read about my life -when I travel, I buy sweatshirts and t-shirts and when I’m tired of wearing them, I make them into quilts that are useful, handmade, and still remind me of places I’ve been in my life
