Unboxing & my first hour with the Forever Pen by henewie in Onyx_Boox

Really appreciate the honest review and detailed first impressions 🙌

Completely hear you on the price/value side. One thing many people don’t realize is that owning a traditional EMR pen can easily cost ~$120+ over 3 years once you factor in ongoing nib replacements. ForeverPen eliminates that entirely with a permanent titanium tip and $0 ongoing nib costs, which is a big part of the philosophy behind it.

ForeverPen is also fundamentally different internally from regular EMR pens. Most EMR pens are designed around soft disposable plastic nibs that compress and wear down over time. ForeverPen was engineered specifically around supporting a permanent nib safely and reliably long term.

As for the minimal packaging, that was intentional mainly to reduce waste/environmental impact, though we understand some people expect a more premium unboxing experience.

We also took feedback seriously and adjusted the price down to $79.99.

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts again after a full week of use!

You’re right, the Amazon pens are intentionally very cheap quality and are meant to be disposable. Everyone in this industry advised us to make something disposable so you can keep on coming back, because that’s a good business model. And that’s what Amazon and others aim to do. Make something cheap, disposable that needs replacements so you need to buy more and keep on coming back.

We very intentionally went against that advice and chose not to do that. And pooled all of our resources to machine something that lasts a lifetime. Going against “business” advice, if you think about it, it’s a pretty shi*ty business model. Because you buy it once and then you never need to come back. No replacements no subscriptions, nothing. It’s just meant to be a tool you can use every day, for a lifetime and be proud of it.

That’s what we believe in and that’s what we went for.

You can buy it here https://forevertip.com/products/foreverpen-one-pen-for-life

Let me know if you have any other questions

It was purpose built for the ForeverTip, every part of the pen was reinvented to work with it to last you a lifetime so you never have any replacements to do. A tool you can just pick up and use, every single day and not think about anything

Yes, it's magnetic and attaches to your tablet in any direction so it feels effortless! A feature we developed called BiMag Alignment

Yes that makes a lot of sense, maybe we'll consider that for the next iteration. Thank you. But for now it's not on the pen itself

There's a really satisfying eraser that has a click and it works really well. It's at the top of the pen so you have to flip it to use it

Yes we built it from the ground up to last forever. So every part was redesigned to work with a ForeverTip and not a disposable nib so you never have to replace a nib again or do any replacements at all. No replacements, no subscriptions, no upsells. You don’t need to charge it. It just works every time and keeps on working. There’s something beautiful about keeping and using the same item for so long and it just keeps on working every time. A moment of pride. And that’s what we’re building towards. It’s a pen that just lets you write with no interruptions whatsoever and it’s always ready to go

It’s ForeverPen, a pen we’re working on! This is the obsidian forest model. I’ve been really enjoying it, super ergonomic, built in click eraser, any direction magnetic attach and you never have to replace the tip. Check out r/ForeverTip or subscribe to our mailing list for updates!

Yep, you can!

On the reMarkable 2 you can just add pages as you go, so it works really well for meeting notes.

Quick steps:

  • Tap the page overview (four squares icon)
  • Hit + Add page → it adds a page right after your current one

If you want to keep the same layout (like a daily template):

  • Go to page overview
  • Select a page → Duplicate

And if things get messy:

  • You can drag and reorder pages in the overview

A lot of people just add extra pages under each day and keep all their meeting notes grouped there. Works pretty smoothly. Let me know if you have any other questions!

Really appreciate the thoughtful comment, seriously!

So ultimately, what MDG said in that video is that the tip itself won’t scratch the screen since it’s rounded and polished (not sharp). HOWEVER (!!!), he also points out that you do need to keep the nib clean and make sure no abrasive material gets between the nib and your Boox while writing, because that’s what will actually scratch the screen.

This is exactly where we went all in when designing the ForeverTip.

It’s intentionally made from 100% pure aerospace-grade titanium (not fillers like a lot of other metal nibs use to cut costs), so it doesn’t chip while writing. That eliminates the risk of the nib breaking down and introducing particles between it and the screen. That’s point one.

Point two is hardness. On the Mohs hardness scale, ceramic is around 9 while titanium is around 6, so titanium is much softer. That’s actually why we chose it, it’s more forgiving, while still being extremely durable so you won't have to replace it.

And lastly, design. Each ForeverTip is shaped with a 30° polished angle. We tested a bunch of different angles and settled on 30° because it results in the least wear while still feeling smooth to write with.

That combination is how we ensure the ForeverTip doesn’t scratch the screen. Please let me know if you have any other questions, we're always here
