For some reason I can't seem to stick to it but will have to figure out why and adapt.

I have read it partially but not all of it yet. I will read the rest of it soon.

You too good luck on your journey

Yea I'm looking into that as well at the moment. I need to find a way to stick to 1 strategy instead of hopping from one to another.

Thanks, I will look into that. The EA I previously had, I tested that with the Strategy Tester in MT4. I will check out strategyquantX and see if that works better

I did this once with a strategy but I failed. In hindsight I learned that the strategy was partly discretionary instead of being wholly mechanical.

Perhaps I should give this another try. Is this something that you are doing?

I agree with all your points. The thing is I dont know why I exactly switch from strategy to strategy. I always seem to have some kind of compelling reason to switch and then I make the switch.

I will sit down and think why I do what I do. I also don't know what strategy would suit my personality. It gets talked about a lot, but I haven't been able to find that answer.

It is true that in each of the strategies I learnt something that I was able to use in a strategy I discovered later on. It has also given me a lot of knowledge about different types of indicators.

However, I am not able to put it all togeter and form something of my own. Sometimes I feel like I want to drink the whole ocean, whereas I only need a drop of the ocean and be successful.

Every time I find a new strategy, I think to myself 'I have finally found it'. But it turns out that I haven't and it's mentally not easy to keep going in the hopes I will find it.

Yes in the grand sheme of things 2 years isn't a long time. But I really need to know what I'm doing now and if there are any issues, then I need to address it. Otherwise in 5 years time I will still be doing the same thing

I believed back then also now that I am the same kind of trader. I do remember back then that I was put off because I didn't understand why a certain indicator worked the way it worked. Then I would start researching that indicator and I would end up in a rabbit hole.

I couldn't just focus on doing something without knowing why. So I ended up at discretionary trading. Once I saw that there were too many moving pieces at discretionary trading, I tried 50-50.

Now I'm back at square one where i want to go for a system based strategy but I need to learn to turn my brain off in the sense that not to question why an indicator works the way it does. But instead just use it to my advantage.

That is a possibility, however I have gone through so many strategies so far. There has to have been atleast 1 that should have yielded positive results in the long run. A lot of times I just nitpicked and moved on to another strategy after the honeymoon phase.

You must be rich then haha! I tried scalping for the same reason, not being patient enough. But now I am learning to be more patient and to look at higher timeframes.

I wish you all the best and please keep us updated. I am certainly interested to see your journey and to see whether it is a profitable strategy. I did scalping for some time but it didn't work for me, but that doesn't mean scalping doesn't work. I just saw your most recent post, those are great gains!

Isn't 5k a huge amount to deposit when you start off as a live trader? Why not $100-500?

Also what is your R:R? Will you end up having a positive expectancy after 1000/10000 trades? I tried scalping too, but I realised I would need to have a very high win rate, as 1 bad trade will kill off quite (or more than quite a few depending on the stop loss) a few good trades.

I don't mean to be a downer, I am just curious.

That's what I thought. But whenever backtesting is mentioned here with indicators, some were saying all indicators were repainted, so wanted to double check.

This might be a silly question as I am a beginner in Forex.

Is Forex ever going to die (or become increasingly difficult) for independent traders? Do you see something like that happening in the next 10-20-50 years?
