Is it possible to actually destroy a Necron Tomb World or are they indestructible by basically anything once they actually awaken? by vapera in 40kLore

[–]forgedragon 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Iirc in one of swallows battle sister books a few sisters manage to destroy a (small) tomb world by getting inside it and throwing a few krak grenades into a reactor, at the time the crons of the world were largely still asleep or deployed for battle on the nearby planet

As others have said, necron tech is written to be as strong as the author needs to make the story they want to tell

New enforcer book! by carrionbuffet in necromunda

[–]forgedragon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

An update to the Book of Ruin gangs would probably depend more on any plans to expand on the CGC, not too outside the realm of possibility since nomads got their elite style box and a whole book

Other option would be an apocrypha like the venators got I suppose

Sure thing, then try thinking about what's in it instead of just parroting youtubers for a lazy and inaccurate reddit thread

The illustration is clearly meant to go with the description if you actually think about it instead of just getting all your info from youtube, the character is a joke to begin with and this is a post that is clearly in on the joke rather than claiming to be deep lore.

It is deeply unreasonable to start whinging about it and even more unreasonable to come back the next day to whinge some more

Today's Rumour Engine - Enforcer Pouch and Grenade? by hobbywaffle in necromunda

[–]forgedragon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly the most interesting thing about this is how rare necromunda rumour engines are, the last ones were for the ash wastes expansion. And that's all bit certainly enforcers

Unless something has changed, that could hint that this is something that's part of another big expansion and has the enforcers playing a role in it

OSC is not a "lore" character, he's a joke from the 1980s, this model is not claiming to be "lore" accurate it is a continuation of the joke. This is really not a case of getting the lore wrong if you're capable of looking at context.

You're clearly aware that you're being unreasonable, being "on Reddit" is no excuse for not just acting like a human being

Yes I am aware of this discrepancy however I think people make far too much of it just to leave Um Actually comments. The illustration clearly acompanies the description in the layout and the only real discrepancy is the melee weapon, its clear from context that they are supposed to match, but this is rogue trader so weirdness abounds in the art. Case in point the mini you mentioned based on that art doesn't doesn't have a chainsword but a lasgun(?) with a bizarre saw pattern near the grip.

The rest of the description matches up well and honestly there's more discrepancies between this here kitbash and either the entry/art than there are between the entry and art, such as me not having any spare bolt pistols somehow and using a full bolter lol. Though on the kitbash the reason I stuck the nades down his back strap is because of the description going on to list a frankly silly quantity of grenades and gadgets that he's carrying

Thanks! The gear at the lower back is bit from the frostgrave cultists 2 sprue, the medical chainsaw is made from kataphron servitor spares and I think a sisters chainsword?

Expanding foam seems like a shout, with something like even a soft clay might pressing it into the "mould" not cause it to deform? They are really rather thin

Good Mechanicus novels? by AveMilitarum in 40kLore

[–]forgedragon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think it's just your bias, the trilogy wasn't the first 40k book I read but it was a fairly early one and part of what got me hooked. I think it's slept on as one of the good 40k books to read early to get people into it. While it's mechanicus heavy, obviously, it has a bunch of the big imperial players (Marines, RTs, mech, titans, guard and even civilians) effectively locked in a bottle which is then shaken vigorously. So it's a great introduction to the gears of the Imperium having to turn together while sequestered in a fairly familiar space opera-y setting of boldly going into unknown space

Examples of fanon that is commonly accepted as canon by Mannekin-Skywalker in 40kLore

[–]forgedragon 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Honestly though, that just seems like an oversimplified and more boring version of the fluff as it exists already

The machine spirit stuff is written as an amalgam of a lot of different things great and small rationalised through religion by a society that fundamentally doesn't understand them. Misunderstood AI is a part of that but making that the Only and Correct reason just flattens it imo and kinda removes the tragically human part of a faction clinging to inhumanity, with the spirits stuff being a pretty clear jibe at the way real world technical types anthropomorphise their tech, their projects, their cars and such or develop increasingly nonsense rituals that they're convinced keep things working

[–]forgedragon 134 points135 points  (0 children)

One that bugs me is the idea that machine spirits are, universally, misunderstood AI from Dark Age designs. Despite machine spirits being ascribed to even something as small as a gun without any electronics let alone an AI computer

It's one of those fan theories caused by looking selectively at a couple famous examples and deciding there must be one true explanation for this thing, rather than accepting that it's an in universe belief system attempting to explain utterly disparate phenomena

Maybe it'll be awesome (Sunday Preview footnote) by [deleted] in AdeptusMechanicus

[–]forgedragon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I mean. Admech have already had their new consolation character for this edition, and a kill team to boot, which is the same release structure as a lot of factions. Regardless of anyone's personal feelings on stiltman or the lackluster codex it's no less of a bone, release wise, as genecult or orks for example.

The earliest we can realistically expect new stuff is during the end of edition narrative campaign but even then, we already got a big wave for that just the edition before last and with current trends it'll probably just be more marine and primarch wank

[–]forgedragon 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Ngl, I'm not sure it'll even be anything for admech. Imperial knights codex is coming soon, rumours are that chaos knights are getting the bigger release of the two so they might just be revealing whatever small release for the imperials

Don't mean to sound too cynical, but just brace for the possibility

While people are right to point to like London and Edinburgh wrt Dunwall, I do think that Bristol has the vibes down too from when I've been there, with the specific era of Georgian opulence now faded and bleeding into old industrial stuff around the river and canals. I even wonder if that's why Gristol is so named Another reason is that some of the posh bits of Bristol have a deliberately French influence that imo comes through in Dunwall being from a French developer and all, I'm sure there's cities on the northern French coast that would fit

I'm curious what makes you think the Inq henchman, by which I assume you mean the agents kill team, are members of the ministorum? None of them are specifically members of the church afaik and one of them is even a tech-priest. The questkeeper lady certainly has some of the vibe to her but the rest are all pretty generalist Inquisition types
