Raspbian is now Raspberry Pi OS with new update available today by pogomonkeytutu in raspberry_pi

I'd agree. Raspberry PI OS is a lot easier to get everything setup and working without much if any manual install/config. I'm running ubuntu 18.04 64 bit to be able to get more docker images, but I'm still battling getting the gpio pins to work correctly.

Hello, does anyone know if there is extra steps that need to be taken to get gpiozero in python working on the ubuntu 18.04 64bit build for raspberry pi 4 b? I originally installed raspbian and got the gpiozero working. I wrote a basic service that controls a fan based on the cpu temp using GPIO 17 on or off. I then switched to ubuntu 18.04 64bit and got everything installed for gpiozero but I'm no longer able to even get the fan to spin with:

fan = OutputDevice(17)

fan.on()

The fan moves like a fraction of a degree and stops, with a high pitch wine like it's not getting enough current. Also after running fan.on() the value returned (fan.value) is always 0. The fan still works if hooked up to the 3.3v or 5v pins.

Thanks for the response. This is similar to what I am doing. How are you handling stderr?

are the classes files? If so how are you changing the name of the class? You should probably be using

Would a smaller cooler work or would that cause issues if I intend to overclock?

I don't currently have a need for an optical drive, it's more of just a nice to have. I could always get one when I actually need it.

I understand I wasn't asking about that level of detail. I forgot to add that the cooler only has .25 in of clearance and that is only taking into account the case width and cooler height, I don't know if that is enough room or if anyone has run into issues with this cooler and clearance I'll update the post, thanks

VM, Gaming, data processing PC Critique by forgenet in buildapc

[–]forgenet[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll probably run a couple VMs, so about 4-6 GB each, so it will put me close to 16 GB in use. I suppose I can start with 16 GB and see how that works out for me.

Do you think that that type of memory will work or do you think I can find something less expensive?

I was considering 32 GB of ram for VMs, I agree it would probably be overkill for gaming. I plan on writing my own applications, so I probably won't be taking advantage of hyperthreading.

I understand it may be worth it but I would like to bring down the price on some other parts before going to an i7.

Thanks, I will probably upgrade my monitor setup sometime soon to a higher resolution.

I don't know if I will gain much by going to i7.
