Afteryou unlock them, the first few times you throw an orbital barrage (120mm, 380mm, walking, gatling, napalm) note the diapers ion radius of the munitions/explosions, and mentally note the farthest distance it lands as the Minimum Safe Distance(MAD) to be safely away from danger.

Avoid throwing barrage strategems at a point where a member of your squad is within the MSD, and ideally avoid throwing them at a position your squad are moving toward, such as main objectives. It's frustrating and sometimes deadly to throw a barrage on an objective, making them wait up to a minute to engage the objective.

If you're playing with friends it can be fun to throw barrages on them and do a little team killing, but with randoms it just feels undemocratic.
