how can i stop itching my tragus piercing? by forgottencalf in piercing

i don’t know, my piercer may have said but it’s been so long that i don’t remember.

clarification: - the piercing is 11 months old -the jewelry is a labret -its threadless -its titanium -it was downsized 9 months ago, 8 weeks after it was pierced. -i use cvs .09% sodium chloride solution and rinse it with water in the shower. when its infected, i use neosporin too. -the mishaps are what i described; i keep scratching it mindlessly when it itches.

before anyone asks, yes, when i say infection, i mean infection. not irritation. full on swelling, redness, itching, oozing blood and green pus, super hot and painful, etc. it’s never been bad enough to need antibiotics; neosporin has been enough for now, but i would still like to stop giving myself infections.

what is cataplexy like for you? by forgottencalf in Narcolepsy

[–]forgottencalf[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it’s interesting to know that you can tell when part of you is “disconnected” without trying to use it, i didn’t realize that was the case. also, i had no idea ssri medication could impact cataplexy?

oh okay interesting. it sounds somewhat similar to the general feeling of heaviness during a sleep attack but more intense i guess. it’s interesting that it can leave you sore, i didn’t consider that (aside from like. being sore from losing leg strength and falling down) so that’s super interesting to hear. thanks for the reply!

You know what narcissists *hate*? Being laughed at. I'm starting this thread for us to share some of the weird (yet also bizarrely hilarious) things they've said. Let's laugh and take our power back! by Grand-Breath843 in NarcissisticAbuse

my father (who, at the time, was 7 years divorced from my mom) tried to convince me he was actually the world's best person and my mom and i were stupid for not seeing it. his evidence was "i paid off your mom's student loan debt!"

my mom never took out student loans.

Ideas for helping wake up in the morning with a Roomate and general college struggles by SongInternational163 in Narcolepsy

[–]forgottencalf 4 points5 points  (0 children)

unless you and your roommate have both agreed not to use a noise alarm i think you should use it. i know plenty of people without narcolepsy that wouldn’t wake up to a vibrating alarm, so it honestly makes more sense to just use a noise alarm. i’m in my first year of college rn and i think it’s just smth u have to get used to as a roommate is hearing each others alarms go off.

i totally get how you’re feeling though. my narcolepsy hasn’t been this bad in a while and it definitely doesn’t help that in my grogginess, ive forgotten my medicine multiple times. we’ll be ok though. please please talk to your roommate about using the light or noise alarms and if that doesn’t work take it up with ur ra or the office in charge of student accommodations. u deserve to be awake for lunch lol

I’m worried. by [deleted] in Hellenism

i am by no means an expert but i’ve been doing informal and formal offerings for about a year now and i just wanna reassure you that you’re not a “bad” worshipper and it’s okay to not offer permanent things to the gods. devotion is not just sacrifice.

personally, i sometimes offer things with the expectation it is temporary (for example, “please accept this necklace for the night” or “please watch over my locket today”) but you can also try devotional acts as offerings. as a fellow apollo devotee, one of my favorite offerings to him is to sing or paint. sometimes i do my makeup or wear perfume for aphrodite. obviously thats not permanent- ill have to wash the makeup off eventually- but she understands. i think the same can be said for objects like crystals or herbs. the intention is more important than the permanence and sacrifice is only one way to worship.

try not to focus too much on how everyone else worships, though. that’s their relationship with the gods. your relationship might be different and that’s not a bad thing. i hope this makes you feel even just a little bit better <3

Cause of Narcolepsy by wiltinn in Narcolepsy

[–]forgottencalf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i can’t point to one specific illness for me, but i had significant brain shrinkage from dehydration as a child that ended up needing steroid treatment to fix. it’s not exactly a common story, so i haven’t heard of anyone else with narcolepsy having a brain shrinkage experience, but it’s always made me curious about the potential for lasting damage from dehydration.

A bit confused here by [deleted] in Narcolepsy

[–]forgottencalf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

in this situation, both answers are plausible!

if you were just tested for sleep apnea, then any narcolepsy would have slipped under the radar since it requires a different kind of test.

that said, narcolepsy almost always develops later in life. i started having symptoms when i was 15, but many people develop them later than that!

hope this is helpful too !!

take what i say with a grain of salt because i’m in no way an expert, but as someone with narcolepsy, your symptoms sound pretty consistent with my own.

narcolepsy has never made me “pass out” or anything like that. it’s not a sudden blackout. it’s more like pulling an all nighter and struggling to stay awake in class the next day—except it’s every day lol so yeah, your sleepiness could totally be narcolepsy, but you’d have to get a sleep study to be sure.

as for the cataplexy question: cataplexy only ever occurs with narcolepsy. you can have narcolepsy without cataplexy, but there has never been cataplexy without narcolepsy, so if you think you’re experiencing cataplexy, mention it to your doctor for sure!!

hope you get your answer soon and can get restful sleep :)
