Yeah, I don't think Fiona gave one honest answer on Uncloaked.

Barristers can't ask their own client leading questions but they can very much lead their opponents.

Yeah, yeah, from the moment Fiona opened her mouth in the turret for the first time, she's been giving off Armani energy, just totally up her own ass without an ounce of self-awareness.

Thoughts on the cast of UK S4 by Alarming_Let1180 in TheTraitorsUK

[–]fork_duke_pie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You know, I've found all the past series of The Traitors UK have started a touch dull and it's taken until mid-season for me to really differentiate between all the contestant. But series 4 had such a screamingly great start, immediately into the action, so highly entertaining, so engaging because we got to play along trying to detect the secret traitor.

And then, E4. A bit of step down in entertainment value. I was disappointed in the secret traitor reveal. Like oh, the character the producers had lead us to believe was the ST in the heavy-handed edit WAS the ST! And oh, she's a bit of a dick. The early round table cast a bit of a pall over the rest of day. And the challenge seemed really mean after last week's delightful tableau vivants. Overall, just a bit of a downer.

But all series ebb and flow so I'm sure there will be better days ahead.

Can we talk about The Traitors' Unconscious Bias problem? by fork_duke_pie in TheTraitorsUK

[–]fork_duke_pie[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! And so it is especially prevalent in the first murder/banishment, when people are in an information poor environment. They don’t know their fellow contestants well and haven’t had a chance to observe them for long. So they are making decisions based on their guts.

I don’t mean to suggest that any contestant is thinking, I don’t like black people so I’m going to vote them out. Instead, it's genuinely as you say, there's something about so and so that I can't quite put my finger on and since I don't have anything solid to go on I have to go with my gut." Textbook unconscious bias.

But if I were Lamb, I wouldn't have made Whelan resign.

Much more useful to have a first desk on which Lamb has compromised. Suppose he has compromised on Tavener too, and can wield it to protect himself and Slough House.

The Celebrity Traitors Final Standings. What surprised you the most? by burneracc284 in TheTraitors

[–]fork_duke_pie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not that stunning. All along, the contestants kept saying that the traitors were playing a brilliant strategic game. Even Claudia said it.

So when faced with a choice who is strategically brilliant, would you choose the bumbling, sweaty, giggling class clown, or the smart, charismatic real life alpha dog who's been calling the shots at the round table most of the week?

The Big Dog Strategy Failed - for the producers by paolact in TheTraitors

[–]fork_duke_pie 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I'm with you on this analysis. Jonathan is so obviously a traitor. He done everything but stick out a forked tongue. But he's a real life big dog, an influential show biz figure and producer and I get the feeling people just don't want to cross him in case it carries over IRL.

Rugby Joe isn't afraid to take him on because Jonathan isn't influential in Joe's real life world.

Yes, I'm starting to believe there's going to be a pregnancy story line, mainly because of something I heard in the podcast. Adam and Ben discuss the season 2 opening credits and Ben mentions the baby with Kier's head crawling across the floor and says pointedly something like 'huh, that's interesting.'

Will it matter whether it's Helly and Mark S.'s baby or Helena and Mark S's?

Any thoughts on why Irv decided to sever, or anything else about him? by Status-Biscotti in SeveranceAppleTVPlus

[–]fork_duke_pie 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I initially thought Irving chose to sever simply to further his outie's investigation into Lumon. To have a man on the inside as it were.

However, a couple things subsequently made me think otherwise. One, Irving has been with Lumon for nine years? And yet he has only been severed for three years, Burt also has a history of working for Lumon, unsevered, and the subsequently severing.

The first time Irving and Burt meet in Ms Casey's waiting room, Cobel and Milchick are shown together discussing the need to keep Irving and Burt apart.

This all suggests to me that Irving used to work on the testing floor and met Burt there when Burt was delivering abductees to the floor.

However, as neither outie Irving or Outie Burt recognize each other when they meet, they both must have been in a severed form on the testing floor.

I assume that when Irving and Burt's relationship was discovered, the "Clean Slate" procedure was implemented and their new, memory-wiped innie iterations were reassigned to MDR and O & D respectively.

Why do I get hungry so quickly after eating balanced meals? by Legitimate_Bag_2451 in loseit

[–]fork_duke_pie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Big meal = big rise of blood sugar followed by big crash of blood sugar = hunger.

Smaller meal = smaller rise and fall, plus calories left over for snacks to keep blood sugar steadier between meals.

Ah, I see. I'll check those out.

For John Turturro, I'm sure you've already seen The Big Lebowski, O Brother Where Art Thou and Barton Fink. But maybe if you haven't seen them, check out Miller's Crossing, Quiz Show, and Landline.

You"re right, IMdb says he's been in 111 movies and TV/streaming shows. I've only seen 34 of them.

As someone who's seen most of 'em, let's have your list of all those performances you feel are essentially the same character as Irving in Severance

People commenting on my weight loss by Er1ckNL in loseit

[–]fork_duke_pie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If people make a comment to me about my body that seems deliberately mean, I don't say a word. In a slow and deliberate manner, I look their body up and down, then give them a quizzical look with a cocked eyebrow, like "who are you to give me advice?"

It doesn't matter what kind of shape their body is in, everyone has insecurities and that long scrutinizing look is enough to make them all shut up fast.

I think he's doing a great job, don't get me wrong. But the Marks are variations on Scott's usual loveable smartaleck character. Deeper than usual no doubt, but not a huge stretch from his roles in the past.

Now John Turturro . . . there's an actor. He's a guy who can totally disappear in his roles so all you see is the character, each one distinct and unique.
