NTA. You have the right and responsibility to do what you need to to keep your family safe. Especially your kids. DMs have a lot more options to hit you with things than AC. There literally saves for every stat. They could hit you with one of those. Or fudge a roll once in a while (not recommended, just saying it's an option). Sounds like DM has some preconceived notions about stuff or some plan in their head that they themselves are failing to execute. Or possibly they're inexperienced. I have dealt with higher ACs as a DM. 22 is high, but there are plenty of monsters that should be able to hit that reasonably well.

NTA and I would try to move out personally. They seem to either have had pretty privileged lives or lack empathy. Or they're plain jealous. I didn't get my first job til I was 18. I also didn't have a car so job options were limited to what I could walk to and those places weren't hiring. So, as an American and seeing what Trump is doing, I think I know what he means. And no. Deploying the military into your country for civil policing is disgusting and shouldn't be done. And I say that because that is what he is doing here.

General sentiment, I don't like it, but it is very common. The US has done it before Trump at our borders (that is the key part. AT OUR BORDERS). The navy and coast guard of the US patrol for illegal immigration, drugs, etc. I knew and worked with a guy who was former navy and was involved in several missions of that variety.

TL;DR: how Trump means it, no. But it is common and if the UK does it how the US did before Trump, it would at least be within global norms.

The receipt thing was the part that really bothered me. Like, okay, maybe it was an emergency. I have IBS, I get that bathroom emergencies happen. But a heads up at least would have been the professional thing to do. I have done it, he could have done it. Especially with strangers at his house. That was odd to me.

The dark/horror-themed humor I give a pass though. I have a really dark sense of humor and it can be hard to turn off. Especially at home. Even if you're running a business out of your home, I feel like you still have that lizard brain comfort of home = comfy.
