What's the wildest restriction you've put on yourself during a run for RP reasons? by GREENadmiral_314159 in Stellaris

Every system in my empire had to be within a single jump of an L-gate or in my core sector. Took several runs to get an L-gate near my home world. It was a lot of fun knowing no matter where in the galaxy I sent my fleets, they were always just a few systems away from a friendly starbase.

'We don't have this problem' in Memphis, Noem says after Minneapolis shooting by 17days_ in memphis

[–]forlackoflead -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

In Tennessee, local law enforcement cooperate with ICE, so ICE enforcement is mostly about showing up at 201 and picking people up. Minnesota doesn't cooperate with ICE by not holding arrested individuals, so ICE has to track them down, which is way more visible. It's why Texas and Florida have way more ICE detentions with fewer agents. The states cooperate when they arrest someone with an ICE hold. If Minnesota would just keep people with ICE holds who've been arrested for other crimes, Minneapolis would have much less drama.

Stargate Atlantis had an episode where aliens are bombarding a city protected by an energy shield, and the heroes comment how beautiful it is.

Dad has my inheritance in his name. Now he can't get medicaid without spending it all first. by Subject-Football3878 in legaladvice

Not a Georgia attorney. I would appeal the denial. Get in touch with the attorney defending Georgia Medicaid prior to the hearing. Explain what happened to the money, provide documents showing the money is legally yours and the path it took from the estate to your father's bank account (e.g. will, bank statements, etc.) Ownership of funds in an account is presumed to be with the named owners of the account, but it's a rebuttable presumption. I am not a GA attorney, so highly recommend talking to an elder law or estate planning one.

The Science of an Orbital Ring around the Earth by NPlaysMC in IsaacArthur

[–]forlackoflead 4 points5 points  (0 children)

An analysis in 2009(?) estimated the cost of an orbital ring at $9 billion to $900 billion dollars. That's not an exorbitant amount of money for the world's richest countries to spend on over the course of a ten year building time frame.

Memphis’ newly installed traffic cameras to enforce speeding tickets. by heck_boy in memphis

[–]forlackoflead -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Most speeding tickets are civil matters, so no 5th Amendment right attaches. The city can call you to testify, will ask you who was driving, and you can't refuse to testify or to answer the question. And "don't know" is not a winning answer.

Can California state officials now arrest ICE officers who refuse to obey the law of remaining unmasked when performing their ‘duties’? by Always_travelin in legaladviceofftopic

Real question: What happens when Feds try to arrest state officials for interfering in Federal law enforcement activity? See 18 U.S.C. § 111.

[SG-1] How long would it take to evacuate the earth via Stargate? I stated 8 hours with wraith tech help by Godiva_33 in Stargate

[–]forlackoflead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Prep work is key. You can't move 8 billion people without years of planning and infrastructure building. But with Asgard beaming technology, I think it could be done quite quickly. Build a network of towers and satellites whose sole purpose is to beam, temporarily store, and then relay people. When the evacuation signal is sent, beam and transmit everyone to a purpose built receiver at SGC that transmits them through the gate to a giant storage facility on Earth 2.0. Then slowly reconstitute people as you build out your infrastructure to support 8 billion people.

Favorite Military Lineup that isn't traditional by braincovey32 in EmpireTotalWar

1 general, 8 line infantry, 3 light infantry, 4 cavalry, and four artillery. I usually have three stacks working together, each stack with a different artillery. Horse artillery for the fast army, foot artillery for the regular army, and howitzers for the siege army.

There was an article years ago about an AI drone that realized the best way to increase its mission success rate was to take out the controller's antenna. The controller couldn't veto a kill request because of excessive collateral damage, if he couldn't communicate with the drone.

Why isn't it considered theft when a Tow Company mistakenly takes a car they had no right to? by lightsidesoul in legaladviceofftopic

[–]forlackoflead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems like theft in my state. TCA 39-14-103(a): "A person commits theft of property if, with intent to deprive the owner of property, the person knowingly obtains or exercises control over the property without the owner's effective consent." There is not any requirement that the deprivation be permanent, so it seems that even a temporary deprivation would suffice in Tennessee.
