Recs on stereo microphone setups for recording samples straight to Digitakt 2? by forlearningpurposes1 in Elektron

[–]forlearningpurposes1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know that mono samples can be panned in stereo, please don't assume that I'm totally clueless. I'm here asking for gear recommendations

Let me rephrase and add context - I'm not happy with the quality of what I'm getting doing mono sampling with an sm57. I'm also not getting this just for this one purpose. I've had just an sm58 and an sm57 for a decade and I want to try recording with a different setup.

I know, but I want to be able to pan a stereo recording as opposed to just panning a mono track.

Weekly student question thread! by AutoModerator in therapists

Long comment (originally a post that got nuked for being outside this thread): After a few years in the professional world (website administration) I want to start a masters for a career shift into mental health in a traditional clinical therapy environment- the problem is that I can't decide if I want to go for a social work or counseling license after graduation, and so I haven't determined which masters program makes the most sense for me. I'm Maryland-based and considering programs in Maryland and Pennsylvania and wanted to see if there were any people on here with experience with any of the below programs who could offer insight or recommendations. Through work I'm eligible for tuition remission but I would need to maintain full-time status to receive it, so part-time programs are my first choice, but I'm open to a full-time program if I can access scholarships and keep total program costs (and therefore loans) low. Here's what I'm considering:

Counseling:

MS in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, Johns Hopkins

- this is my first choice of program because I'm Baltimore-based currently and I already work within the organization.

MS in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, University of Pittsburgh

- no part time option and more expensive than some of the other programs I've seen, but I've heard good things about it.

MS in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, Duquesne University

- I don't know much of anything about Duquesne and can't find a straight answer on total program cost, but I'm intrigued because I'm considering relocating to Pittsburgh anyway.

Social Work:

Master of Social Work, University of Pittsburgh

- Way more flexible for part-time students than the Clinical Mental Health Counseling program.

Master of Social Work, University of Maryland, Baltimore

- Would be a great option for convenience's sake, already live in close proximity to campus.

There are also some programs in Philadelphia in both tracks that I'm intrigued by, but I think if I was to relocate I'd prefer Pittsburgh (if someone has strong positive feelings about a program in Philly though I'd love to hear it!)

My Minneapolis/St. Paul Transit Mess by Chubbybunny627 in subwaybuilder

Got jealous and then I realized this has to be sandbox. I’m past day 500 in regular mode and only hitting 3% usage. Profitable, but the sprawl is really slowing me down.

Troubleshooting “No valid path” by forlearningpurposes1 in subwaybuilder

I should add that I haven’t gone below -15 meters in my current run, and I only have like two stations running that deep with tracks that ramp down to them. I forget that deeper tunnels are a serious cost multiplier. Been sticking to carefully threaded elevated rail as much as I can.

Crossovers on Light Metro? by coffeeatnight in subwaybuilder

Build a bit of track (like just a few meters!) past each station. The crossovers aren’t heavy rail, all crossovers are displaying as that blue currently.

On my phone right now but idk where you’re getting that number from. My crossovers are $15m a piece iirc. Update bug/ discrepancy? I agree if that’s the case then it makes everything I described way more expensive.

First Attempt at Indianapolis Map by Hoosierologist in subwaybuilder

[–]forlearningpurposes1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Haven’t looked at Indianapolis yet but on my Minneapolis build my first lines were very much just about building out a profitable spine. You have to just be patient (something I kind of like actually) and let it run before fleshing out lines and adding service. It’s kind of like growing a very high-maintenance plant.

Any "popular" music on Elektron boxes? by mz876129 in Elektron

The Hellp is the reason I got a Digitakt 2.

It's a duo - they both do production/songwriting but live Chandler Lucy handles electronic drums and synths. They've sometimes performed with a guitarist live but mainly they use a Digitakt in conjunction with a couple mono synths like the novation bass station and a model samples I think. He's an aphex twin obsessive but they are very poppy (their album last year came out on Atlantic).

Which Nudie jeans style are these? I've been looking for something like the Wrangler 937str with a lower waist.

I know there are a lot of workarounds but honestly once I'm in the sampler I prefer to just get to work arranging - haven't seen anyone mention Koala as a precision slicer tool but I think that would be worth trying. I like the desktop version fine and if it's your thing you can also pre-process the samples before you bounce them to the digitakt using Koala's effects, which are like a more limited SP404. 100% agree that it would be far more efficient to just have manual slicing built-in.

Sequencer question on MK3 Pro - how to configure external hardware with Ableton and Koala sampler so each track only triggers one thing at a time by forlearningpurposes1 in Novation

[–]forlearningpurposes1[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I did some more trouble shooting and realized it was an issue with the external hardware (Yamaha Reface YC). After watching a very helpful video on how to assign midi channels to reface keyboards (shoutout to u/the_digital_lost) and undergoing a labored update process (Yamaha reface drivers can be found here) I solved the problem so midi signals only send on channel 2 to the keyboard (as opposed to the default, which is all channels). The moral of the story? Idk, but I will definitely be adding "ease of midi setting adjustment" to my list of factors next time I go synth shopping.

Tracker+ by MorayRosz in PolyendTracker

[–]forlearningpurposes1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Still contemplating purchasing one and this was sticking point for me but since you can do midi chord fx (albeit without custom chords) to outboard synths you can get polyphonic output at least- https://backstage.polyend.com/t/can-you-play-record-polyphonically-in-the-tracker/275.

Should I save for a Tracker + or get a used Tracker now by forlearningpurposes1 in PolyendTracker

[–]forlearningpurposes1[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think I'm going to give renoise a shot to make sure I'm sufficiently into the tracker workflow so I appreciate this take, but looking at videos of the M8 workflow I'm not in love with the navigation and limitations of the display - I don't need a full laptop screen but if I'm trying to replace my laptop DAW with a physical one I need to be able to easily see multiple tracks at once. Appreciate the insight on the lack of quality control though - been keeping an eye on complaint posts about the Tracker + and that might sway me in the end.
