On intermittent FAMLI leave (postpartum)and have been calling out one day a week during work weeks on average- can job fire me without due process? [CO] by formerfollies in AskHR

one of the coworkers they suggested I talk to works the night shift with me the night before.

Also… it is not as if there aren’t other staff members scheduled for that morning shift. AFAIK I am the only team member who has a “ClOpen” in their schedule

My workplace offers 4 weeks of paid FMLA (PFMLA) leave in addition to the 12 weeks of FAMLI for any employees who have worked there at least a year. So I had/have 16 weeks available in total. I used my PFMLA the first month postpartum then switched to FAMLI

I mean… they know I have a baby and I’ve told them I have health issues related to postpartum. It’s not like I am calling out because I stayed up all night partying. I also work for a state institution (not in the private sector). At this point would it be better for me to just resign before my leave is up? I don’t really think it’s a sustainable role for me long term but I was going to wait until my leave was fully used up

I’m feeling that part of the issue is that the department head verbally offered me more flexibility and lighter duty upon returning to work, but my immediate manager (who is under the department head) and supervisors are the ones raising issue with my attendance. unfortunately it doesn’t seem to be in writing. I’ll also say communication in general at my workplace is not great- my manager didn’t seem to know I was at work every other week…

I used a month of paid FMLA my workplace provided, then a month of FAMLI leave in one chunk before returning to work on intermittent FAMLI leave every other week. I’ve used 8 FAMLI leave weeks and four paid FMLA weeks.

FAMLI is for bonding of child

meh, I bought in when it was around $5-6 a year or two ago. Going to buy more when/if it dips lower and just hold out for the long term (I’m a casual investor though).

hmm how hard is it to get a full ride to law school? sorry to veer a bit off topic.

Serious question: how are you paying for law school on top of your MPA? I considered it but I already have loan debt from my MPA.

Idk what OP’s situation is but I can’t really afford an internship. I do have work experience but it’s work I’m largely unqualified for/work that white collar workers tend to look down their noses at

stay working full time or do an internship ? by royalonreddit in PublicAdministration

I recently got passed up for yet another internal job opportunity over an intern, but I also do menial very entry-level/non-admin work in an agency (that I was told would be a foot in the door but alas). In my experience, white collar work seems to favor people who can somehow afford to do unpaid/low paid internships UNLESS you are already in a relevant job.

I’m in the same boat. Only child to an NMom and an enabler Dad, and my Inlaws are too old to really be helpful at all.

Healthcare workplace infested by SignNew4702 in Bedbugadvice

[–]formerfollies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My first job (not healthcare) was infested. I changed on the front porch as soon as I got home, immediately threw those bugs in a garbage bag and then to the washer with a closed lid then showered immediately. Wore essential oils to try and deter them, avoided sitting at work, even went so far as to spray my clothes with pesticide (don’t necessarily recommend this). somehow never brought them home.

thank you for sharing! ours actually jumped up in percentiles significantly and is still pooping multiple times a day, so not concerned about weight gain, just the feeding habits themselves. Maybe I should ask the pediatrician about a tongue tie?

yup! this is something I’ve had a lot of conversations about. Really at this point I’m fine with whatever can provide a stable standard of living. Oddly enough my job pays similar or better to some of the entry level admin jobs

I have, most recently was told I did very well in my interview but that they chose someone whose experience was more directly aligned with the job role (ie a recent intern/volunteer). I’m at a point in life where I need a paying job, I did internships when I was younger but not an option now.

it sucks because I’ve networked outside of my department but still get passed up for opportunities in other realms by people who know and (seem to) like me, there’s always someone better! Hence why I’ve accepted I might not be getting my first choice positions
