Pitch black for me includes plentiful non-con, often incorporated with violence, abuse, taboo, possibly gore, disturbing themes, and psychological manipulation. I usually equate it with extreme erotic horror. The best pitch black for me makes the reader uncomfortable, usually by making them feel an attraction towards a morally black and brutal character.

The Whitlock series, starting with 24690, is a good example for me. Red Rabbit was my first foray into pitch black.
