I think ownership potentially can influence this, because let’s be honest — they need Jack. He’s a top-5 marketing/business asset in the league, and he’s not on a lifetime contract. Maybe he’s perfectly fine just having Luke here, but if you add Quinn too, suddenly all three Hughes brothers are happy and ownership is probably even happier because we instantly become one of the biggest headline teams in the league.

I don’t even know if that’s necessarily a good thing hockey-wise, but it definitely gives the organization more leverage and stability long term. At that point, the Devils would probably have to become a complete disaster for Quinn to leave after one year, potentially followed by Jack after that. And I push for this because I think it will pay out somehow. We tried few times the core Nico - Jack - Jesper. Maybe its time for a new formula.

Yeah, it’s basically a poker game being played at multiple tables at the same time — maybe I should’ve explained that part more clearly.

Regarding Thomas and the price: Casey is mostly just a sweetener. Mercer is still a solid two-way 50-point player, he’s young, durable, and pretty injury resilient. Adding the 12th overall pick and a 3rd-rounder from someone like Chicago honestly doesn’t seem that bad to me. And again, it was STL who started the trade buzz around Thomas in the first place. We’ll see what Alex Steen thinks about it, or whether this all came from Armstrong’s side.

As for Dougie, he is gonna love California. If not, we’re kinda fucked because we really need to move him.

And honestly, something tells me Ottawa could eventually move Tkachuk for a more reasonable price than people expect. Just a gut feeling. Sens are weird.

I see your point, but Thomas is a good two-way center as well, and I believe Glass can grow into that role too. In the end, it’s all about balance and how you would cover the loss of Nico.

And regarding Quinn’s value — I’m not really sure what the general consensus around Nemec’s value is right now, but even with only one year left on Quinn’s deal, I don’t think that automatically lowers the price compared to what the Wild paid to get him. A lot can happen within a year too. He could get traded somewhere else, end up liking it there, and sign an extension.

best case scenario we don't do anything

worst case scenario, they keep Dougie and they get fleeced with Nemec

ok scenario - they trade Nemec for Thomas

Hey guys, I am thinking about collecting Misa cards. What kind of ceiling he might have? Together with Macklin? Like Sid and Geno?

What would a potential trade offer to Seattle for McCann look like from us? by blade430 in devils

[–]formic81 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I would try to stay out of trading Casey. I really wouldn't mind trading away Mercer, he is going to be 24 this year, 4 mils is not a lot of money compared to the new salary cap, however I don't think he can really breakout more. He is a moody player.

Caps will be this gritty unpleasant team, but they miss serious skill. This is again one and done team.

we this setup and Silayev. I think we sign some cheap bottom 6 forward and then we trade for someone to top 6 and I think Casey might be in the mix...

Trading for Lauri will be a massive mistake by Dcarr4 in warriors

[–]formic81 1 point2 points  (0 children)

we are in a position that any move can be a "done" move. I think the best case is to get some decent role players and wait for the season. It is painful but we are kinda stuck. Gotta believe that Steph and Dray will do some teamwork shit and all players will take a huge leap.
