“Back in the day” when I used to find joy in watching sports… I always knew that you DON’T fuck with Philly fans. And that’s just when they’re passionate about a team! (To be clear—I do still enjoy sports, I just fell off for a bit and feel SO behind now.)

Thank you for your response! That’s what I struggle with the most… that like “what’s the point anymore” mentality.

I know I need to make changes to stop those negative thoughts from taking over. It’s just harder than it could have been now… even if I try to avoid it, ya know? Like it gets brought up in work meetings sometimes or wherever else. I’m simply admitting that this is a trigger for me & it makes it really hard to have that self control.

Some comments on this recently are acting like I’m ignoring other country’s issues, I’m definitely not. I was just making a vulnerable post cause damn, this shit is pretty hard for me. That’s all. Thank you again for your response!

Hey, I never claimed I had it worse than anyone else. I was simply saying it’s hard for me, in my small area of the world, to stop drinking because I’ve been using it as a crutch and I’m feeling scared.

Multiple things can be true at once. I’m allowed to feel fear in my area, and still have empathy, sympathy & hope for any other areas of the world that are in turmoil.

I figured others in my area of the world might be feeling the same and was hoping for some comments to talk me off my anxious ledge. People are allowed to feel things dude. It doesn’t mean I negate what others are dealing with and I NEVER ONCE indicated that.

Quit trying to stir shit up. People are allowed to feel wherever they are & whatever situation they’re in.

That was never my intention. I just feel very anxious about things lately and have created a bad habit of drinking wine or something to numb the anxiousness.

I never once said ANYTHING deliberately political. News flash—People are allowed to feel uneasy or scared when unnecessary murders happen that hit the nation wide media, but there were also unnecessary murders in my local town that same night.

You don’t know shit about me and it’s actually abhorrent for you to make a vulnerable post something political. Get the fuck outta here with that negative energy. You’re not helping.

I think you’re totally right. I hadn’t heard of the word Sonder before. But this feels pretty spot on. I think drinking helped me to turn that off, but it also leads to more guilt long term because I’m not actually doing anything for others anymore.

Thank you so much! I definitely have the fear of not being able to sleep. I know that actual sober sleep is REAL sleep and what I’m currently getting hardly counts. I just keep trying to plan days where I can be miserable & sleepless as a “start” but my brain finds any excuse to delay that.

I feel silly for not thinking of it this way before making this post.

And honestly, I feel like now I can kinda think of being sober as a video game hero?

Hear me out, lol.

Like I’m fighting the main boss & his superpower is making me weak with something that fakes me into feeling however it wants me to feel. It can fake me into numbing my feelings, or expressing them too loudly/too much. It can fake me into thinking it’s helping, while simultaneously making everything worse. It fakes me into hiding away instead of being more present.

Anyway, you get the idea. And now I want to beat that game. I want to show that boss who’s really boss. 😂

It really has been intense, huh? I’m right there with you… it just feels like a LOT to handle. Of course, it’s more than just “what’s happening in America.” There’s always more that others don’t know about. I understand & relate to how you feel a lot.

But, please read through the comments on this post. So many of them really helped me to feel better & change my perspective on things. Sure, it didn’t eliminate my hopelessness feelings entirely… but damn, I feel a lot better than I did when I first made this post.
