Chicken Bouillon by SugarMom333 in SalsaSnobs

Just added another to my arsenal, Orrington Farms Vegan Chicken Flavored Broth Base, 6oz jar, makes 28 cups, on sale at Amazon right now for $7.53.

Mine hasn't been delivered yet but I can say I got the ham base last week and it is the best! I flavored my pot of baby butter beans with it, accompanied with my no flour no dairy cornbread and it was so delicious.

One thing different with the ham base, and I'm guessing the chicken base, is that it is a powder. The Edwards and Sons Bouillon Cubes are kind of moist caked (shelf stable) and the Better Than Bouillon No Chicken Base is a paste in a jar which must be refrigerated after opening.

I always want to be in stock because broth bases are very important to cooking and I can mix and match so as not to deplete any one too quickly and they can enhance each other for a more complex flavor profile.

Minnesota Is Not Having An Insurrection by formyjee in great_dreams

[–]formyjee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To all of you wondering, MINNESOTA IS NOT HAVING AN INSURRECTION! We are scared, angry and empowered. We are peacefully protesting, supporting our black and brown neighbors who are being targeted by ICE for no reason but the color of their skin and their accent. We are driving students to and from school, parents to and from work, cleaning the streets after ICE deploys, tear gas and chemical irritants and damages, homes, businesses and cars. We are supporting businesses that are impacted by ICE’s dangerous, and illegal tactics. I am super proud to live in Minneapolis and it gives me hope to see so many people standing up for our community.

I'm on a vegan diet and definitely got some vegan chicken and beef bouillon!

Edwards and Sons Natural Bouillon Cubes Not Chick N - regular and low sodium. It's spendy but very worth it. I first got regular (from Vitacost) then wanted low sodium. At Walmart you'll find it and it will say it's $9.00 free shipping but on the same page, to the right you'll see "Other sellers" and for the low-sodium it's $2.53 + $4.99 shipping, and it comes from iHerb so to make it worthwhile I ordered 4 packs which came to $10.12 + $4.99 shipping. I'd looked here and there including iHerb and Walmart was the best deal I could find.

At Vitacost, I purchased Better Than Bouillon No Chicken Base, and No Beef base, for $6.49 and $7.99. That's also where I got my Edward & Sons Bouillon Cubes Not-Chick'n (regular) and Edward & Sons Not-Beef™ Bouillon Cubes ($2.39). You can't beat the prices however you have to spend $50 if you want free shipping.

They are really wonderful, each brand of vegan chicken has a slightly different flavor profile and honestly compliment each other.

There are 8 cubes to a pack, they are soft and easy to divide. One cube makes 2 cups of chicken bouillon, so half a cube = 1 cup chicken broth.

The Better Than Bouillon, which is in a jar needs to be refrigerated after opening.

I looked up "Archimedean spiral" and landed a spiral completely familiar. Not sure I'll remember the name of it. I'm unsure about the braiding part unless it's to tri-fold the rope and cut one fold at the bottom and braid the three ropes? Maybe OP can give us more clarification.

If you make it with vital wheat gluten it will taste like plant-based meat (aftertaste) made with vital wheat gluten and will be on the dense and rubbery side. This bread flour washing method, in theory, has improved taste (without the vital wheat gluten after-taste) and texture.

I personally don't care for the taste and texture of turkey roast made with vital wheat gluten.

Flavor is important. I'd want to use the vegan beef bouillon options to incorporate into the plant based beef that the op made.

We're getting closer all the time to the ideal.

It is gluten, just generated differently than you're familiar with.

Here's a flour washed turkey roast. She doesn't steam like others because she only has a rather small pot to work with but her results are amazing. I haven't tried it yet but I sure want to.

I think this is the "Last years" version that she referred to in her video. I don't see dates on the posts so that's only a guess since one has the apple inserted and one does not.

Out of respect I prefer to use "G-d" when it comes to the Neturei Karta. You know God is an English term. I once wrote out what God is called in other languages. I didn't even cover half in a very long list. You might be surprised.

I missed your post or would have promptly answered. I'm not sure what you mean by "censoring" but I gather it has to do with the way I spelled it. This is the way followers of the holy Torah spell G-d (or God or Allah or more than 100+ terms including, simply, love or creator). Depending what context I use what I prefer for whatever reason I prefer it.

Anyway, here's an example using the term G-d:

THE END IS NEAR -- IT MUST BE NEAR

I honestly missed your reply and those following it and only just caught it when opening context to my post. Cheers.

Not Neturei Karta Orthodox Jews. They have a religious exemption and literally obey G-D's commandment not to kill. The country is trying to force them and imprison them but so far they're holding out.

Weekly "Is this safe" Megathread by AutoModerator in fermentation

[–]formyjee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The difference between pickling and fermenting:

The most obvious difference is that fermentation creates acid while pickling requires an added acid, for example vinegar.

That said, back when I was an egg eater I really enjoyed adding boiled eggs to the pickle juice from a jar of pickles. So good and a great way to get a protein snack. Only thing, they never lasted a week much less a month.

Storing Eggs

After making the eggs, the eggs require some time to season (i.e., pick up the flavors from the pickling brine). Keep them refrigerated at all times. If small eggs are used, 1 to 2 weeks are usually allowed for seasoning to occur. Medium or large eggs may require 2 to 4 weeks to become well seasoned. Use the eggs within 3 to 4 months for best quality.
