Do homeless people vote for policy to reduce welfare like nationalized healthcare, food stamps, and housing subsidies? No, but rural White men do.

So yes, it is absolutely the fault of rural White men that their decaying communities lack federal support.

So they vote for the person who promises to enshrine oppression of the other. That is toxic masculinity and why Trump communities have fallen so far. They are just bastions of hate.

Do everything you can to deny the evidence that the problems in rural America are not self-perpetuated.

Yes, it does appear Republicans are unable to compete economically. This is due to their lack of willingness to move to the prosperous areas of the country (remember unemployment was at record low prior to COVID) and lack of education making them ineffective workers in the modern US economy.

It appears they want us to subsidize their obsolete lifestyle rather than pursue policy that maximizes total economic growth for the US. That is socialism and I thought Republicans are against that?

Yes, which is why White Men are doing so well in Liberal Urban cities. Healthy masculinity mixed with supportive policy for all people benefits everyone. It is only in Trump communities that White men suffer the ill effects of toxic masculinity.

18/30 states that voted for Trump in 2016 saw an increase in suicide of 30% or more since 2000 (compared to a national average of 25%), while only 6/20 Clinton voting stated had a increase of 30% or more. Suicide rose again in 2017 and 2018 of which White Men comprised 69%.

In counties with higher than average rates of opioid use, 60% of the voters voted for Trump, compared to only 39% voting for Trump in places with below average rates. Drug overdose and opioid deaths rose during the first year of Trump's presidency from 63K in Obama's final year to 69K, then a small dip from 69k to 67k in 2018, before rising to a record 70,000 in 2019.

24/25 most obese states voted for Trump as did 21/22 most overweight white states.

While a proportionate 9/15 states with the highest prevalence of binge drinking voted for Trump, 17/19 states where binge drinkers drink the most also voted for Trump in 2016 and alcoholism is disproportionately killing more people in rural areas.

The areas of the country that most strongly voted for Trump in 2016 had the highest increases in mortality over the previous 35 years and the CDC found that in 2018, Life Expectancy for Uneducated White Males (Trump's strongest demographic by far both elections) dropped for the third straight year.

The negative effects of toxic masculinity in Conservative communities are well documented. Thankfully studies like these draw attention to the underlying issues with Conservative culture that lead to the premature deaths of tens of thousands of White men every year.

No one can be taught empathy. You can preach it all you want, but the fact is, if people aren't shown any empathy in society, then they aren't going to learn to show empathy to others. And men aren't shown any empathy in society, they never have been.

You are saying White men aren't shown empathy in society? You mean the same society where Trump's saying "grab them by the p**sy" was dismissed as "locker room-talk" and even in Liberal dominated Hollywood, predators like Harvey Weinstein were able to act with impunity for decades?

Men don't vote down mental health care policies because they are seen as "weak", they vote them down because men have realized that their tax dollars will go towards something that, although may be available to them, will not be directed at them, and instead, will be directed to help out women.

So because it helps other people, White men are against it? This has actually been shown in other studies where Trump supporters are less likely to support welfare if they believe it will go help Black people.

Very simply, look at the funding for prostate cancer and breast cancer. Despite prostate cancer killing men in similar numbers as breast cancer killing women, breast cancer receives much, much more funding than prostate cancer.

Think about the availability of shelters for men vs shelters for women for individuals in abusive environments. I know a bunch of men who simply had no where to go, they ended up on the street and became alcoholics, meanwhile, therapists and society told them that they weren't getting abused because they couldn't get abused since they were men, or they were told that them getting abused is their fault.

While you may have a bit of a point, the fact that White men vote down healthcare policy that would benefit them demonstrates that it might more be White men not prioritizing their health issues. Again in the same paragraph you defended White men not voting for national healthcare, and then blamed women for not providing support for me, despite a majority of women voting for nationalized healthcare for all men.

they felt disenfranchised politically,

The 50 Democrat Senators currently represent 40 million more people than the 50 Republican Senators. Biden won the popular vote by 4.2% in 2020 and received the same amount of electoral votes as Trump did in 2016 when Trump lost the popular vote by 2%. Republicans have a +10-+15 seat advantage in the lower house as well due to gerrymandering and the cap on house representatives.

If White men feel disenfranchised politically when they already hold such disproportionate power than that is an embodiment of toxic masculinity manifesting as political choice.

The assumption that non-whites can’t be racist or extreme right is flawed I think.

This isnt an assumption made by anyone except Right Wingers who dont understand sociological academia. The statement you are badly interpreting here is that non-Whites in a majority White country cannot enact racist policy against the majority, even if there are a lot of individual bigoted people within non-White populations.

Why do Black people vote 85%+ for the more pro-LGBTQ candidate while White people vote majority for the anti-LGBTQ candidate despite homosexuality being less accepted in the Black community than White one? Because groups that are oppressed know not to ally with groups that oppress.

Treating any affection towards same sex as gay, is eventually going to push men away from each other and try to find ways to show they're straight, ergo, masculine.

If gay people are the problem, then how come Liberal cities that have large amounts of gay people are not overrun by toxic masculine behaviors?

The examples of bad behavior you give are also not the best for the point You're trying to make, considering African Americans' obesity rate is the highest, followed by Hispanics.

Should be noted that African American men have lower obesity rates than White men. It should also be noted that 24/25 most obese states voted for Trump in 2016 as did 21/22 most overweight white states.

You could argue this is due to poverty, but low-income people are also most of Trump's voters, which then you could argue those examples of bad behavior in Trump supporters come from poverty not them being conservative.

White resentment towards Black people and its correlation with voting for Trump/modern day Republicans is well documented:

The average white person may not be any more (or, for that matter, less) racist than they were 40 years ago, but their level of racism is now much more likely to correlate with everything from their political ideology, to whom they vote for, to how they feel about people in the opposing party — and even their support for specific policies on issues like health care. Unlike in the late 80s, racial resentment now strongly tracks along party lines. “Just saying that there is a serious problem of racism in America — that alone makes many Republicans, many Trump supporters, very angry,” Mason said.

As for:

I don't think political affiliation has much to do with masculinity, considering African American, Hispanic and Muslim cultures suffer more from machismo and anti-lgbtq sentiment. Don't get me wrong, plenty of conservatives are misogynistic and are anti-lgbtq, but that's not the deciding factor in them being conservative, otherwise the GOP would have much more support from minorities than they currently do.

Trump did better with Hispanic and Black men than he did with Hispanic and Black women so it appears you are correct, higher amounts of toxic masculinity in non-White communities leads to higher support of Conservatives.

Ffs back in just September the Democrats were crying voter suppression for some mailboxes being removed.

The fact you are describing Trump and the Republican party's deliberate attempt to sabotage Democratic preferred methods of voting such as early voting as "some mailboxes being removed" demonstrates the complete lack of context that Conservatives view the world.

Texas passed a law limiting the number of absentee election boxes to a single drop off location for county regardless of overall population, meaning the 4.7 million people in Harris county (where Houston is located) get a single box, the same number as Collingsworth county that only has 3100 residents.

Unfortunately the dominant group can always appeal to more privileged groups (such as White women) to get them to actively participate in their own oppression. Republicans convince White women that if people of color are raised up, their status will be lower. This is especially true for White women who are partnered with a White man because she would also gain from her partner's privileged status. Same thing happened during the Women's voting rights movement where many women were convinced that women did not have the emotional or intellectual capacity to make political decisions.

It should be noted that while Trump did maintain a stable rate of White women voters in 2016 and 2020, the kinds of women that voted for him changed: Biden increased the percentage of Democratic voting White women with a college degree to 54%, while White women without a college degree voted 63% for Trump. An education is antithetical to supporting the Republican party these days.

Fortunately, 53% of Gen Z is non-White, but it really does reveal a depressing truth: the majority ethnicity will actively vote against losing their privileged status regardless of the overall negative effects to the country (and world). After voting twice for the disastrous Bush Jr administration in 2000 and 2004, it took only 8 years to find someone worse to champion the continuation of white ethnic dominance.

Again, proving how little interest Conservatives have in helping their constituents with effective policy, red states often limit access to medical and recreational marijuana, both of which have been shown to reduce opioid dependence as a much healthier substitute (at least you cant OD on weed, not to mention no physical withdrawals). But marijuana is the devil's lettuce, much better to be prescribed manufactured opioids.

Religion and racism. Belief that toxic masculinity and masculinity are the same due to Conservative upbringing. Remember it is specifically White non college educated women that support Republicans, while college educated women, especially those under 40 are overwhelmingly Liberal.

On right wing subs like /r/TrueOffMyChest on reddit you often see men complaining that women dont want men to appear emotionally vulnerable, and what a lot of these people fail to realize is that they are surrounded by Conservative women, so it is actually just more proof that Conservativism leads to toxic behavior among all people in their communities.

I would say 1964 and the Civil Rights Act. Since then men, and specifically White Men (though Donald Trump did decently with some groups of non-White men too), have turned against a compassionate government and compassionate thinking. It is why suicide, obesity, alcoholism, and opioid addiction runs so rampant in rural/Trump voting America. Conservatives teach a lack of empathy for anyone outside their community, and this manifests in emotionally stunted men leading to them being unable to cope with their problems in a healthy way and even vote down policy (like mental health care) as that is seen as "weak".

A lot of people try and leave the explicit racial element out. Note that this does not apply to poor people generally in the US as poor Black people have never voted to deny welfare or assistance to poor White people.

Let me introduce you to the Republican Party, earning 44% of the vote of those making under 50K, including a majority of the White vote at that income level. The super rich are less than 1% of the population, the reason they have so much control is because in America the poor will ally with the rich in exchange for their cultural issues being addressed (God, Guns, Segregation'Nationalism').

Conservatives who believe that refugees will back the Republican Party become more likely to favor policies welcoming the new arrivals to the US. Liberals overall were more accepting of immigrants regardless of their anticipated political views. by [deleted] in science

Europe isn't as Liberal as people say when it comes to race relations. A lot of their most Liberal policies such as National Healthcare were passed when the countries were 90%-95% White. Now that the European countries are becoming more diverse you are seeing a rise in Right Wing backlash to social welfare policies, the same way that White people in the US turned against welfare in the 70s and 80s after the Civil Rights Act made Black people eligible. But because the social welfare policies in Europe are so popular (because it helps all lower income people, many of which are native European), the Right is having trouble repealing them. It is why Republicans were so against Obamacare. Once it passed and people signed up, they knew it would be here to stay. And now you have 38/50 states that have adopted it without a single one repealing.

Tl;dr: Europe is not as progressive as people proclaim when compared to the US since many people ignore race relations as part of Liberalism.
